Rifle Scopes Leupold or Nightforce?

I broke one by driving 600 miles with it in a riflecase in the back of my truck. Was zeroed when I was at home, got where I was going and it wasn't, made shotgun patterns. VX3 with BC reticle.

Another fun one is my Mark AR, was broken out of the box zero changed when you changed the power. It's been back twice now and gonna go back a third time because something is goobered with the windage turret. Zero moves on the horizontal axis by about 2" at 100 yards. It's also a shitty scope to begin with, not worth the 300$ I paid. Super Sniper, 10X bushnell both better. For instance the lock ring that holds the eyepiece comes loose over time, and when it's loose the eyepiece wiggles around - crosshairs move. My old VariX hunting scopes don't do that.

Another fun one was when I went to Wyoming for a hunting trip and when I got there my scope rattled like a maglight with only one battery inside it.

My mk4 has been back twice, first time it was really cloudy at max mag, I sent it in to be fixed at it came back with the reticle canted to about 1 o'clock.

Sorry, but I have a hard time believing this "mine never ever broke in umpteen years" stuff. I take good care of my stuff and yet my leupies always seem to go tits up.

It's because they don't use their equipment as much as some others on here. If the scope/rifle sits in the case/safe 353 days out of the year then, yeah, the Leupold is going to hold up forever.

If they take it out and begin to put it to use, things will be somehat different and all of a sudden, no praises for Leupold will be heard.

Re: Leupold or Nightforce?

Well on my first issue Leupold I did not take care of it very well. For my first two deplyments one to Afghan (6 mo)and my 1st trip to Iraq (13 mo) the rifle with scope spent time strapped to my ruck for movement, strapped to an ATV in the hindu kush, and the rest of the time with me behind it. I took it on and off almost every night to put on my PVS-10. SO not that I have to prove anything to you, believe it. I am not a weekend paper target hole puncher, I use the "tool" for what it was made for. And to talk about use I can almost say for sure I have put more rounds down range in a day that most people on here do in a year. And by the way when these scopes are not being used they don't stay in a safe or case it is called an "Arms Room".

Re: Leupold or Nightforce?

One last thing..KillShot, last time you jumped in your NF did you let it ride in with you or did you send it down the lowering line? When it hit the ground and you moved to the LFX did it keep its zero? I was just wondering?

Re: Leupold or Nightforce?

This is a great post I had some fun with it. In truth I think I would like the NF, but I have never shot one. I do on the other hand for a fact like the Leupold. Which is "better" I think will at best always be open to debate. The "great" thing is that if you are paying taxes in the good old USA you are all partial owners of thousands of Leupold scopes, not only rifle scopes but spotting scopes also. The reason being: For every M-24,M-110 and M-107 SWS that the Army buys it comes with a spankin' new Leupold and not just a M3 Alpha or a MK4 but a Mil reticle gold ring spotter also..and boy are they pricey. The good news is that since no one on here likes them you don't get to shoot them or for that matter even touch them. I just want to thank you for letting me take care of them for you. Try one, they're worth it. Glass, reticles, knobs all better. New hi-speed knob is great, you get 10 mils worth of .1 clicks in a single revolution. Razor HD is another goodie.

Lots of good stuff out there that doesn't say Leupold on it, but not a lot of good stuff that does.

OVER-pricey lol.

Only leupold tactical scope worth a damn is the M3. Maybe new FFP ones are good, we'll see. 4.5-14 looks decent, waiting for a certain someone to review it though.

Re: Leupold or Nightforce?

Man..After all of this debate, I have come to an end! If anyones has an extra NXS 2.5-10 x 32 Compact I will take it, no questions asked. I know this is a small step for a Leupold man but it is a giant leap for the unity of all long range shooters!

PM me with transfer details..

Re: Leupold or Nightforce?

I too think the MK4 gets an undeserved bad rap around here. I bought a 6.5-20x MK4 with the TMR after looking at it side by side with a NF NXS. The NF definitely has some improved features (zero stop, HS adjustments, illuminated reticle), but the MK4 was every bit as clear to my eyes. For the money, I don't think the new MK4 M5 FFP can be beat.
