Has anyone heard if Leupold is working on anything on the Tactical i.e. Mark IV line of scopes? Seems like they've been stagnant for some time now. Doesn't even seem like they're entertaining the idea of 0.1-MilRAD adjustments for the MilDot,... or an MOA-reticle as an option for that matter,... MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA is the excepted norm, no? and they don't offer either! It's kind of sad, really,... I guess their only concerned with the Hunting/Benchrest crowd and even then I think they're getting their A$$ handed to them by Zeiss, Swarovski on the hunting side and March on the benchrest side,... it's a shame.

I have a practically new 8.5-25x50mm scope with the 1/4-MOA / Illuminated MilDot that I've been sitting on for some time and really haven't used, so I thought I'd sell it, but then I thought, "Hey,... this is actually a really good scope, but it just needs 0.1-MilRAD adjustments to be great!" So I e-mail Leupold asking "How much to convert this into 0.1 MilRAD's?" and they reply, "Sorry, we're not set up to do that,..." Huh?! Why not?! Then I dig into their website and see that they don't have ANY of the above mentioned options available,... What are your thoughts?

I'm curious as to what makes you say this?

I too wish leupold offered scopes in Mil/Mil. Hopefully, in time, they will. Until they do, I'll stick with the Mil/MOA MK IV's. I'm a big Leupold fan and I think the MK IV is one of the best scopes on the market, not to mention one of the best values. Sure I'd love to replace my MK IV's with MST-100's, but they are not made anymore and they cost 3x each what a MK IV costs.

Re: Leupold,...? What's up?

i don't think they are "only concerned with the Hunting/Benchrest crowd," but I do think they OWN a large chunk of the tactical scope market and are therefore probably slower to move than it seems they should in some regards. rumor is that .1MRAD adjustments and Horus reticles are around the corner - we shall see.

in the meantime, if you want to dump that junky 8.5-25x, i'll pay you something for it. will have to be highly discounted though, with it being mis-matched and all.

also, i don't think MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA is the expected norm, though it would be nice.

Re: Leupold,...? What's up?

While Leupold is frequently bad mouthed on this board, they probably sell more scopes than USO, S&B, Premier, or Zeiss (especially in the US). They know what they're doing.

Re: Leupold,...? What's up?

I've seen metric Mark IV's, only in 4-14 though. I have a 6.5-20 mk IV and the only complaints are lack of bells and whistles (MIL/MIL, FFP), it functions good and glass is great. Also about $1000 less than a comparable scope with aforementioned features.

Re: Leupold,...? What's up?

Leupy just came out with the Mark AR line of scopes or something like that. They are intended for use on ar-15s. They dont look impessive.

They still continue to make the "impressive" AR scopes also.

Re: Leupold,...? What's up?

If ya'll don't mind I'd like to piggy back on this thread.

I need glass for my rem 700 sps tac. I have always been a Leupold fan. I have the mx4, VII in 2.5x8, and vx3 in 1.75x6 on some of my guns.

I would like a variable scope something like 3x12 or 4x16. I was looking at the mk2 mil dot, but it's close to $600. I would rather spend around $400 on a scope b/c I still have to buy bases and rings. I was thinking about the nikon monarch?

Any guidance is appreciated. Most of my shooting will be less than 500 yards, but I do have access to a 1000 range. Should I get a regular base or a 20 moa?

The reason why I want a variable scope is b/c I may use the gun to shoot a deer or two.

Thanks

Re: Leupold,...? What's up?

Yeah leupold has been asked for years to offer 0.1mil turrets, they haven't, and probably won't. Between military contracts and the fact that 95% of their civi customers don't know a mildot from a TMR from a MOA reticule.

Frankly leupolds scopes are mostly selling on their old reputation. Their glass is nothing special anymore. The Zeiss conquest/Meopta/Kahles/Sightron line spanks them in optical quality, and even the Nikon Monarch/Buris fullfield line rivals their glass. The Mk4's are flat out over priced to sell to the uninformed tacti-cool buyers, nothing more than a 30mm VXIII with some more adjustment range and tactical turrets. None of the serious tactical scope companies are not offering matched reticule/knob options. Their MK4 illuminated series are priced not very far from the nightforce nsx line and the NF spanks them in reliability, solid repeatable adjustments and optics as well. It's well documented many of the MK4's do not have their reticules in line with the elevation adjustments, and that Leupold considers a 3 degree error acceptable.

They do some things right, their low profile knobs are great, though they should offer more M2 knob options, but they absolutely need to get matching turret/reticule options, ensure their reticules are in the same vertical plane as the elevation adjustments, and they need to bring their prices down. As NF becomes more and more mainstream leupold is going to see way less sales because for the couple hundred extra dollars the NF is clearly a better product.

A leupold mildot illuminated M1 3.5-10 scope is $1250 online, a NF 2.5-10x32 mildot with mil knobs AND zerostop is $1500, for the extra $250 I'll take a NF any day hands down.

Re: Leupold,...? What's up?

I was going to buy a 4.5-14x50 Ill. TmR. Bought a Nightforce instead. Leupold is getting over priced.

And how hard would it be for them to make a MOA based reticle? I have 5 or 6 scopes I would pay $200 each to convert to MOA reticle. Instead I have to buy NF to get MOA MOA.
