I'm considering buying an 18" lrp-07h, so it has a light contour . My question is what will this mean for me? I have always had heavy barrels.

Will 5 shot groups still be accurate? How long will I have to wait between groups to shoot again, so that accuracy isn't diminished?

Can I still shoot this rifle accurately to 600+?

The JP "light" contour for .308/7.62 tubes are 0.750" under the handguards and at the journal, then 0.740" to the muzzle (its basically a straight 0.75" from just in front of the chamber to the muzzle). Their "medium" contour is the same under the handguards, but opens up to 0.936" at the journal and then back down to 0.875" out to the muzzle.

I have not had any stringing problems due to heat, but I have never run one through mag dumps, extended strings of rapid fire, etc. If I'm going to do that with any .308 AR barrel, it'll be a CL tube FAR from the match quality of the JP tubes!! ;) That said, every one I have used has been sub-MOA capable, including shooting 5-round groups in relative short order without any stringing/wandering POI, etc. thanks to their cryo tx which actually does work extremely well, including extending barrel life a fair bit!

Great, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear.

I'm not planning on doing any mag dumps, that's for sure. I just wanted to make sure I can shoot 5-10 rounds at a decent pace, when I need to, and not have accuracy issues.

    light contour?

I really like mine. Its a LRP 308H with lightweight barrel and nutted brake. I wish they made one in 6.5 Creed. I bought mine for He-man/Heavy 3gun but decided I'm never going to shoot 3G and precision rifle.

It shoots around .75 with 168 amax factory ammo. Would probably be much better handloaded but I don't shoot or like 308.

Use the thermal dissipators and they will shed barrel heat very efficiently with the .750" dia. under the guards. JP is one of the few in this industry that knows what he's doing, and knows how to run a top-notch machine shop. His products are well-engineered and well executed for their intended purposes.

I'll have to buy one then.

What about the silent capture springs, what is that all about. Whats its purpose?

They will through their custom shop-- I discussed that very option with Ben. You'll have to pay their hourly rate for the custom barrel length & contour but that's it. I'm going to have them make a 18" light profile 6.5 Creedmoor LRP-07, I figure 123 Scenars over Varget will be a very good combo out of the rifle.

Silent capture spring absorbs the recoil of the bolt, in other words you feel like you are shooting a bolt action rifle. It works very well and I am getting another on my next LRP-07 that I just put an order in for. I just ordered number 2 JP LRP-07 and on this rifle I went for lightness and agility, I am getting the 14.5" barrel with a pinned and welded compensator to make it a total length of 16", CRT stock and flip up sights. I have not figured out about optics yet.
