I just installed a Timney trigger on my Remington 700 5R, .308. I have never had a light primer strike until this morning when I took it out shooting. I saw in here that Timney can solve the issues, what would cause the light primer strikes, the sear?

I also have a Badger Ordnance trigger guard and magazines installed on it, I had to Dremel down quit a bit of it to get the Timney Trigger to fit in the trigger guard. Could that be my issue?

I had the exact same thing happen on the last two 700's I put a Timney 510 on.

Just call Timney and they will send you the longer sear. It cured both of mine 100%.

From now on, I will just order the 510-U from the start.

When I first installed the Timney 510, the firing pin was flush with the bolt shroud (hope I'm using the correct terms here). I had one light strike where the round didn't ignite. Timney sent the U sear and the firing pin now protrudes slightly (the way it does with the stock trigger). Problem solved. I could see the difference looking at spent brass that the firing pin hits harder with the U sear.

Certain Model 700's require a longer sear on the trigger. For the life of me I can't recall which ones right now but the information is out there even on this forum.
SPS Varmit is one model that Timney is aware has the problem, mine does. Timney just made a production change to a longer sear so it appears they have recognized the issue and have made a universal fix. They asked me to ship my trigger back and they'll replace it, no offer of direct shipping the correct sear.
