I normally hunt in North Texas and have a full size lease truck or use my daily driver so it's not a concern to have a gun in the elements but this past weekend I went to a friend's ranch in West Texas and they use SxS's for transportation. All open air, one didn't have a windshield or doors, 2 others had half doors and windshields. The terrain is all limestone rocks and dust so everything is covered in a layer of that fine dust.

Are there some lightweight rifle covers that aren't necessarily soft cases that I can use to protect my rifles then pack away easily into a pack? I hunt with both ARs and bolt guns.

I have a Gen II but I can wrap up AR's in it without much trouble. This is my R700 in AX AICS all wrapped up at the range.

You also have lightweight covers like these:

I've had my TAB Gear cover for like 20 years and it's held up great, that'd be my recommendation.

I had some fabric left over from a project, and sewed up two long rectangles so that both long sides and one short side were sewn together (making a long "scabbard" type pouch) and then just sewed some velcro on the open side to keep it shut. Zero padding, so it's not really a case, but the idea is that after the rifle is pulled out I can just roll the thing up and it's not a massive pain to store.

Sounds like that could be a great option if you or someone in your house knows how to sew.
