I called them and the lady that answered said that use Wylde chambers. Then I emailed Dan about the M4 extension. They use standard rifle extensions but said I could get a M4 extension if I wanted. I think I will, so it matches the Vltor reciever.
How's yours shoot? </div></div>
I was told rifle extension only, he doesn't work with M4 extensions. Figures. Oh well, what a pisser. And Daniel Defense doesn't make A3 uppers anymore as there's not enough demand, the minimum was a tad steep as I recall. Ended up using a CMT assembly from Denny's Guns but I lapped it with the Brownells tool and it took a little bit of the dry lube off the web beneath the ejection port. Used it anyway since it's not a high rate of fire weapon although I did use a Pocket MOACKS to stake and counter-stake the gas key on the Y/M BCG.
Dan doesn't thread barrels either so U had it modified at Gre-Tan Rifles to turn it down and thread it to be HALO compatible and then it got a flat black K-G Kote finish after blasting. It also doesn't have the flat on the gas block step mentioned on the site so I used a DD clamp-on gas block rather than one with a setscrew, fwiw. And it's 22" rather than 20" which the barrel became shortly after I ordered mine, due to demand for match use I was told.
As to how it shoots, I dunno. It's taken a while to get it finished, just got a sling and attachment points figured out last week. I'm still concerned the BCG won't close on a 5.56 go gage since a Wylde chamber is supposed to accept both 223 Rem and 5.56NATO. OTOH since the barrel's marked 223 and ammo chambers cleanly so maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. Could be the Y/M match BCG but I kinda doubt it, I pulled the extractor and it made no difference and I'm thinking I should take out the ejector and try again but maybe I should call and ask if the Clymer gages would work at all to begin with. Or pull the ejector and use just the bolt to check headspace, dunno.
Oh yeah, and I _still_ haven't got the scope zeroed yet, I keep meaning to do that but it'll have to be boresighted since it has a PWS556 installed with a peel washer at the muzzle so the Leupold boresighter probably won't work well enough. The scope's an NXS 2.5-10x32 compact w/zero stop, mil-mil turrets, and a mildot reticle installed in an ADM RECON mount so it oughta be easy but I've said that before...
Since Greg was in the midst of moving his shop he had to chuck the barrel in the headstock of a backup lathe instead of using the bigger lathe with the follow rest, which wasn't setup yet, so the barrel didn't have to be recrowned, thankfully. However, he did find the bore to exhibit a visible runout with the barrel OD. Not much and certainly nothing to worry about but it did seem to me like it shouldn't be like that. But I whine a lot I guess.
Sorry, rambling randomly here...
