I found a lawyer that does nfa trusts in Springfield, Missouri. I contacted him and found out he was affiliated with apple law firm in Florida (guys who run gun trust lawyers). I thought since I am in Missouri, he would deal with me directly but he ended up directing me to apple law firm. Kind of a bummer. I couldn't find anyone local so I just went with guntrust lawyers.

The cookie cutter (apple law firm) trusts are running $600. They seem to have the market cornered. They have local guys in most states that are affiliated with them. Like I said in my earlier post, found a local but he sent me to apple law firm.

I work with an attorney in Cincinnati area who is licensed in IN, KY, and OH. He is a gun enthusiast, and we have been drafting trusts, both NFA and full property disposition, for several months now for friends and acquaintances. He is not a member of the hide, so i thought I would give him a shout out on here. PM me or shoot me an email at [email protected] with any questions. Of course, here is the caveat that I am NOT an attorney, any advice will be discussed and confirmed with Jason first, who will most likely be the one to actually communicate that advice to you.

His prices are below average I believe, since I am using this as experience for the impending post-law school world. So I do the majority of actual drafting, and Jason is the overseer of all my work (down to the last annoying missed comma!). Fee splitting is prohibited between attorneys and non-attorneys, I might add, so I don't get paid anything other than my normal time rate, and will NOT hold myself out to be an attorney only two weeks after sitting for the bar. He does this more or less as a favor to me for my experience needs, so it really is kind of a win-win.

I talked to Mr Stegall today...should have my trust by the end of the week (3 day turnaround). He has been very quick in answering all of my questions so far. I think there has to be at least one other person to set up a trust. Or kids to leave the NFA items to. My understanding (quite limited so take it as you will) is that you are setting up an agreement with two people and placing common goods into that trust.

It would be nice to find a lawyer in Idaho, boise preferred that can do the job! I called the lawyer that the op posted only to be referred to gtl... I'm finding it hard to pay two lawyers essentially. That would make this sbr process $800 into it....

Wisconsin, in the SE and Madison area (office is in Waukesha) is attorney Tom Grieve. Former prosecutor, now criminal defense. You hear him on the radio as a legal Q&A expert on firearms, firearm law, CCW, castle doctrine, etc, and he also writes for a few news groups on the same topics.

Nope, you need a Trustee (Settlor) and a Beneficiary that IS NOT THE SAME AS the trustee. Lawyers can be idiots, so you know (or at least, they can mis-use the language just like the rest of us).

I guess I should clarify. You don't need two grantors, but yes you do need a trustee and a beneficiary. Language wasn't misused, I just didn't fully explain that I was talking about just the grantors, not beneficiaries.

Has anyone dealt with "Lone Star Gun Trust" in Texas? I contacted this guy. He's out of Fort Worth and claims that he'll have the trust done and back to me in 3 days, he claims it's water tight, and he claims that his company does hundreds of trusts a year all over the state and all through email and fax. He sounds legit to me but I'm ignorant to the process. Oh ya, it's all for 250.00 bucks. I'm hoping someone answers back and says that they have used him and he did a great job. That price tag and his close proximity to home make him very appealing.

I live in Georgia. Can someone explain the need for a trust? Do I require a trust to get a suppressor? Is the trust only required to pass along my belongings when I pass on to the greater beyond? Can I leave a Class III item to anyone in the trust?

The trust bypasses the CLEO step plus fingerprints and photo's. You can leave anything in the trust to trustee's. The trust owns the weapon, suppressor or whatever you put in it.

My wife is not a US citizen and thats the only reason I had one made. I do get the added benefit of being able to swap out sbrs and suppressors with my brother though. Cuts down on some hurry up and by items. My biggest concern was if I died my wife would basically lose the weapons and possibly be in violation of a few laws. I say possibly because I assume the BATFE could use its own judgement in the case of a death.

I think the best thing is to go through someone familiar with your states laws. Every state can be a little different but some use the same guidelines. I did pay more for mine but I did it in a holy shit rush after I thought about the wifey doing 20 years for a few short barrel rifles and suppressor hitting the market if I passed away. She wouldn't know what to do with them.

My partner in the company is a licensed attorney and he is the one who executes all of the trusts. I never draw up the documents. We stand by our Trusts and we charge far less than many other attorneys in Texas.
