Any help would be great, I am not a scope or optics guru. I have a Nightforce on my M40A3 and love it. I also have a AI 338 Lapua Magnum which I got later on. I have a Springfield Armory Generation 3 Goverment Model 4-16x56 Illm. Reticle I know its not a Nightforce or a US Optics but it is like new and works great but it is designed or Calibrated for .308 Winchester 168Grain Match. Will this still work with my .338 LM or will it never allow me to get a proper zero? Or can i get a zero but may bottom out to fast for long range shoots? Any help would be great I am a student to this.

Re: Little help with a scope question

You decide if your zero is proper. You'll probably run out of elevation pushing the Lapua but you should be able to get a 100yd zero no problem.

Hope I understood your question?

Re: Little help with a scope question

It depends on a few things. I am not familiar with the specs on those, so you need to find out.

What is the total available travel on the elevation adjustment?

Is the turret marked in BDC drop yards or in MOA?

Are you using a canted base on the rifle?

It may or may not work depending on the above.

You need to know the answers to these questions. If the scope has a BDC reticle, you MAY be able to get it to match your drops at some point.

Is switching your NF between rifles an option. Maybe the Springfield scope is better suited for the M40.

That's exactly what I was thinking..

Re: Little help with a scope question

.338 mag is a lot of energy.. I know I'd want certainty with my zero when you consider the max range of that ammo and potentially how far that ammo could fly off course..

What do you mean by "run out of elevation too soon"? Are you talking about the 308 or the 338?

What model NF is it? 22x and down have loads of elevation travel.
