Studio in my garage right next to my Man-Cave is generally filled with teenagers and musical instruments . I get to see live shows constantly and am always wowed by my Daughters and there friends talent .

My buddies and I started a little bs in the garage about 8th grade. Some Beatle's, 'Stones, CCR, and a little punk. I couldn't play for shit but man I could yell and scream or do a pretty good ballad. It stayed garage except for a trip to a barn for a big party one time.
As a young Marine in Hawaii, The Effekt got started as a serious punk band, then it was S4L(Scarred For Life). Nothing like singing punk rock on a stage. Fast forward some 14 years to Korea. All Army Battle of the Bands, 2000. Oddway, 5 piece band took Overall Rock Category with all original music. A ballad, screamo type, 'Daddy' about a kid who was molested by her dad got them on their feet. 'As You Walk By', a song about the girl you don't think you can ever get had them screaming for more. 'Flesh' a hard pounding, in your face song about Devil Worship had the entire room, the judges, and everyone back stage going nuts. Singing in front of 500+ people under the lights was awesome.
Coming back to the US after OEF VII and seeing my No1 son Riki playing a left handed Strat, signing punk rock for Social Suicide was outfuckingstanding.
Sam wants to learn Bass and rebuild an inbound 1954 Austin Healy 100-4 his grandfather is sending. Torin wants to play guitar and ride motorcycles. Only thing I think is it must run in the blood or something.
Live music has always been there for many people to not only sooth the soul, but to release an inner angst. For many it's not so much the source, but the love of those playing that make it so good

In TX there is something called Texas country or Red dirt country (the name changes depending on what state your in). Its mostly semi unheard of musicians that make the states singing anywhere they can get a gig. Most of the time they sound as good in person as they do on a CD unlike most of you mainstream artist who are lipping it or just plain ole suck Live.

People and bands like Stoney Laure, Wade Bowen, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Roger Creager, Robert Earl Kean (sorta well known), Tommy Alverson etc etc.

Back in the late 80's I played in several "Hard Rock" bands. We traveled all over the West Coast but played mostly in the Portland Oregon area. It was a great time to act like a Rock Star even though we were broke and not at all famous. The girls all thought that we were going to be somebody's so that made for a lot of really fun times. Unfortunately I don't remember them all too well. I wish I had it to do all over again as it was a lot of fun. Here's a pic fom a photo shoot and from a concert at the "Starry Night" club. We were opening up for a band called 'Black-n-Blue". I still play guitar occasionally and have been at it for over 25 years now (started at 14). Geez do I feel old.

Just going to go-ahead and say I've seen Steve play guitar in person, and it's epic this guy can thrash.

Also Steve I totally remember when it was called the Starry night theatre! I saw several new wave bands there as a child.

Live music has definitely shaped my life. When I was 7 years old my mom took me to a roller skating ring to see this canadian band DOA play.

The band came out on the stage with chainsaws and hockey masks, and as a 7 year old boy obviously I was an instant fan.

After the show the band came out and drank beers amongst the small town audience that happened to come to the show back when Bend Oregon really was still a redneck town. The lead singer played some videogames with me and I thought it was great.

Later on in life home wasn't always a safe place to go to and I often found myself trying to stay as far away as possible. I went to every show I could scrape the money together for from my crappy pizza place job. I saw just about every noteworthy punkrock band, several metal bands and all kinds of nameless bands that are long dead.

I think none of these bands was probably as good live as the blind piano playing midget wearing the tweed suit singing gospel-esque soul choir music though at that piano bar towards the end of Bourbon street in New Orleans. The man's soul was on fire.

Nowadays I really don't go to all to many shows, but I do really love live music still. I'll go see Red Fang next time they go through town, and anytime Turbonegro comes to town I'll definitely be there they never fail to throw together a hell of a show.

Also I could never forget this show I got kicked in the face several times, which was awful but I'd definitely see them if they ever came back again.

Big +1!! We're going to see Max Stalling tonight at Hank's in McKinney! He's my favorite. My tops for TX country are Max, Jason Boland, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Eleven Hundred Springs. I love watching them live.

I saw Robert Earl Kean a few years ago at a small club in Wilmington, NC. One of the best concerts I've ever been to.

I grew up in Killeen TX, about an hour north of Austin, so we were always going down there for music. I never played, but I have always been a live music enthusiast and my listening tastes for live music are much broader than recorded music.

First concert was ZZ Top at the Frank Erwin Center in 82 after they were banned from playing Austin for 8-10 years when the UT stadium turf was destroyed at their last concert.

I used to go to the T-Bird Riverfest and always catch great bands. Loved going to the Austin Opera House, saw Stevie Ray Vaughan before he was known outside Texas, Eric Johnson was another guitar virtuoso that never really made it big for long outside Texas. I was just at that age when the drinking age moved up so my window for the smaller clubs was pretty small.

I like smaller venues now. Hate arena anything - sound usually sucks, no connection with the band...it is nice to see arena bands now playing smaller venues since they are not in their prime (commercially) but still sound just as good as they did 20 years ago. Saw Yes is a 2000 seat performing arts center - much better than a 20K arena. Saw Blue Oyster Cult in a club - that was awesome. Pat Travers in a bar just plain kicks ass.

Also more into jazz now. The music is complicated. We saw the Ramsey Lewis Trio at Yoshi's in San Francisco last year. That was great. Too bad Tampa doesn't have a good jazz venue or scene.

Went to a blues club in Louisville, KY while in the service to see one of my favorite blues players; John Lee Hooker. Think about that every time I hear a JLH song, great times.

I've been playing drums for 25 years,the only time I really stopped was when I was in the Marines.I love to play Jazz,funk fushion,rock but my main love is Heavy Metal.I did my time touring and have opened for some major acts as well,onething I've got to say is being on the road is like a carnival gone bad.

I'm teaching my kids how to play now and if one day they would like to take a stab at the big time not to make some of the mistakes I did.
