From some emails with LMT earlier this year, I found out all the new production .308 barrels have this profiling behind the muzzle.

Al Rick: Still haven't had a chance to get her weighed yet but i haven't forgot about it. Sorry.

M1A: Thanks alot man. Thats what I thought but I just wanted to confirm.

Trident: Your a DICK!!! jk...Just when i think i have mine looking sexy you come out with that "Playmate of the year".... Dude your rifles always look sooo good.

Also, I guess it's ok to reload for my MWS with 308 dies considering i cant find much mentioning anything about 7.62 dies???

eta...Trident, just ordered some KAC panels and I haven't decided yet if i'm going to try to stipple them myself or have them professionally done by you.

Mine came with the muzzle end turned down, and I already have the SF brake installed. Now just waiting on rings!

My 20 from Aug 2011 is turned down for a little over 2". The 16 is from Aug 2010 and is turned down less than 1".

Thanks brother...no special coating, just a combination of natural lighting and camera angle I believe.

Dirtyboy....I'm more than happy to those panels for you if need be, it would be my honor:) It is a lot of fun to do yourself, however I would practice a little bit before hand should you decide to go that route.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, DTA whore...I'm a LMT monolithic railed whore...for all other parts, I like to do tricks for both KAC and LMT

I know you got a sexy MRP in your collection from a family photo I recently saw.

Ever since I saw a RTZ test by Orkan awhile ago with his DTA SRS, I knew that if I ever got into bolts....that would for sure be the route I'd go. I really like the DTA design, and see so much similarity in between Karl's MRP/MWS chassis, and the DTA chassis. That said, I ain't no stinking bolt man

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Dude you just put the biggest smile on my face seeing that you shot those groups with the CL (and 10rd groups to boot)

I havent had a chance to shoot mine for accuracy yet.

I also was not aware that the standard CL barrel was a Rock although I can see the "sloped" lands instead of straight. Thats great!!!

Re: LMT .308 MWS

What size Trigger Pins does the LMT MWS 308 have? I am ditching the STD Trigger for a Geissele DMR Trigger but I can't remember if it's a .154" or .169" pin.

Thanks,

Small .154.

Everything is small except for some Colt's.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Another taboo post in this thread full of beautiful rifles, no porn, just a RR and a few ammo evals....

Extremely pleased with both results this morning...and it's really nice to see the Federal GMM 168gr. SMK produce the same group measurement at 200yd as those two above.

In an attempt to do as many ammo evals with the MWS as I can with premium factory ammo, I'm going with both types of ammo...precision, and hunting. So with that said, I didn't have the highest hopes for this Federal Premium Vital Shok 165gr. Sierra Gameking BTSP load in terms of accuracy. It totally surprised me and I've never had a SP type ammo turn in groups like this stuff.

Conditions:
Temp: 52-54 degree F

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Excellent Trident!!! Keep em coming.........I'm finally going to shoot mine again tomorrow but i only have 40 round of Walmart Federal 150gr. soft point. I'm really not expecting much from these.

The good news: I have 8 pounds of Varget and 500 175gr. SMK's on the way.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Thanks Geld6 and Dirtyboy, tried out some more ammo during a really bad thunderstorm the other day. I was laying in literally a puddle of water on my mat, the gun was heavily soaked for about an hr. or two, and the rifle still shot like a laser beam.

Every rifle I've owned, I eventually tried a certain type of ammo that just felt "right"....and the Hornady Custom 150gr. SST just feels right. The following groups of it were shot in the absolute worst conditions imaginable, I fully expect for this ammo to be sub moa all day long with normal conditions.

DSC02841-1.jpg

This kinda illustrates the conditions I was shooting in...first time Ive ever blown a primer, and I guess there is a reason why military ammo is sealed and crimped. It sure enough ejected the case as normal and popped the 2 pieces of primer back into the action.

I'll end it on some porn:)

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Thanks, I think the way that they appear in the pics is primarily attributed to the time of day and the amount of natural sunlight that is filtered by clouds(usually the first hour after dawn), and then a precise camera angle that is correlated to the way that the natural filtered light is hitting the surfaces of the rifle's ano. To answer your question directly though, no armour all, car shine, etc.

I did a 10yd. water test on the Barnes 150gr. TTSX a few days ago as well, as that is the ammo that I'm loading in the mags for HD/PD.

Retained weight: 99.5% +
Expansion: .6235

The BCGs in these rifles are a real piece of work.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Anybody running an extended charging handle on the MWS that they can recommend? I've got an A-2 stock on mine with a Leupy Mark 4 that has some eye relief issues. I think that if I'm going to shoot it off of the bench, I've got to move the scope back and need a wider charger handle to get out from under the scope. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Happy holidays to the MWS addicts...

Do you know if blown primers are ammo related, and or gas system related? I was shooting Silver State Armory M118LR clone ammo, and I blew one primer out of 100 rounds. The primer got stuck in the barrel extension. It took forever to get out.

BCM Gunfighter charging handles are pretty popular. The latches come in different lengths.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

After selling my MWS to a member, I had major regrets...I found another one a few weeks ago and jumped on it. I mounted the USO SN3 TPAL on it and took it to the range yesterday for a few shake down rounds and it was great, 1/2" to 5/8" range at 75 yards with Federal American Eagle.

I will be posting pictures today or tomorrow of the rifle and target....I am cooking Christmas day lunch right now, taking a break to make this post.

Merry Christmas to all,

Re: LMT .308 MWS

D90....look forward to hearing how you like the BABC on your MWS, I'm still waiting on a first range report from you:) Hopefully you can comment on the before and after aspect. I got one laying on my workbench, but I'm afraid to do a damn thing to mine at this point since it's in the groove I'd like it to be in. Nice pics as usual.

R.O.U.S....when that primer was blown, I was shooting in a thunderstorm with heavy, heavy rain. My entire rifle, mags, and ammo were soaked for about an hr. or two. Considering that Hornady Match Zmax doesn't have crimped or sealed primers, my bet is that the culprit was a combination of that, and the extreme conditions.

RG....The only 150gr. ammo Ive done an ammo eval. on thus far was the Hornady Custom 150gr. SST. It was performed during horrible weather conditions, however I believe it to be MOA or better ammo when conditions are cooperative.

nice report. I am still looking to share my first report also.
I just got a press and dies and am about to start making some rounds. Want to post my first range report with my first rounds made by yours truly.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

This is a group I shot about a month ago. I'm a novice shooter, and this is the best I can manage currently.

My MWS setup
16" SS Noveske barrel converted by DBMG
BABC muzzle break
Geissele DMR trigger set to 4.5#
8.25oz heavybuffers.com heavy buffer.
Atlas bipod
Battle arms safety
S&B PM II 5-25x56 P4F reticle in a 20MOA SPUHR AR mount

This is with 19 rounds of 7.62x51 FGMM at 100Y. I pulled one round up in the "6" ring.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Haven't posted any of the latest ammo eval results and the like as I don't want to wear out my welcome in in this thread.

However me and a great new shooting pal of mine that happens to be a member on here as well went shooting LR steel the other day which was my first time out with the MWS in terms of distance steel shooting. Lots more of these to come.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

trident1982,

I appreciate your videos, pics, range, and load reports. Keep it up and never worry about what someone else has to say. Precision long range shooting has many definitions and disciplines.

I think hitting MoA steel at distance is good shooting. I also appreciate bullseye shooting at any distance. Any shooting information is good information.

thanks for your efforts and sharing.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Hey guys. Has anyone Chronograph the LMT MWS 308 16in CL barrel. With different ammo? I usually use all federal ammo and was wondering what kind of velocity Im getting. The ammo I wondering about is FGGM 168g, FGGM 175, AE 150g, LC XM80.

I just joined sniperhide yesterday so If this info Is all ready posted somewhere please forgive me. Its hard to search through all the pages.

Im also in the market for a scope for the LMT MWS 308. If you guys have any suggestions I'm all ears. Im not worried about price to much since this is my baby. Buy once, cry once right

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Bolt stop problem.....
A month ago a buddy came by with his bolt stop on an LMT 5.56 lower flopping around. I pulled the stop out and the plunger was stuck in the hole by what turned out to be a burr, at least I thought it looked like a burr on the edge of the hole. I put a slight chamfer on the edge and he was back in business.
Today, I pulled the LMT MWS out of the safe and found the bolt stop flopping around. I pulled it out, and the edge of the hole was peened in a semi-circular pattern trapping the plunger. I suspect the bolt stop itself is smacking into the lower and created the damage because I don't believe the plunger can come out far enough to do that (and also, not get trapped out). I radiused the hole and broke the lower corner of the bolt stop and reassembled it.
Has anyone else ever seen this? I have not in 25 years of playing with AR pattern rifles (mainly Colts). Is this a common LMT problem or just a run of bad luck?

Keep the videos coming man great stuff. How far were yall taking the MWS? 600yds? Suddenly has me wondering what kind of ballistics could be achieved out of a 16" MWS @ 800yds.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Onemoretime....I'll have to report back on that as that was the first time out with it at distance, I should have a much clearer picture however within the next couple visits to that new long range locale.

Geld6...as always, I really appreciate your kind words of encouragement.

Blackops 2...Thanks brother, we were at 625yds there. We were about to start out at 925yds, but I thought that was a bit much to pop the MWS's LR cherry with:) I'm thinking one more visit at about 800-850yds, then I'll be spending the next several visits at 1000yds...which is the end goal for the 16" CL configuration.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

trident1982, I've been contemplating the LMT MWS vs. GAP-10. I really want the LMT because of the ability of the end user to change the barrels. I'm a less is more kinda guy.

I know the GAP-10 is MOA to 800 from what Lowlight and others have posted. If the LMT is MOA to 600 and MOM (minute of man) at 800 with the CM barrel then it will be on my short list! I'm sure the accuracy would be better with a nice SS barrel.

Did you measure groups at 625?
