LMT .308 on the cheap? Did I screw up?

I walked away from one hell of a deal yesterday. LGS had an LMT .308 with a Vortex Viper Scope stabbed in a Warne Mount for sale for $1995.00. I am a regular customer so they offered it to me for $1800.00 plus tax OTD. Salesman told me I could make a counter offer to the boss. I could even use a credit card with no additional fee. I did some quick math in my pea brained noggin. Let's see, rifle about $2800.00, plus mount $125.00, and around $1100.00 for the scope. That's $4025.00 on the low side retail price new. Hmmm...so what's the deal with the rifle?

Guy bought the rifle then got into financial trouble. Traded the rifle to a guy for some work performed. Guy that did the work traded it in on a bow and some arrows. Less than 100 rounds through the rifle. Looks good as new. More pondering and thinking. OK I know the manager...I can probably get the rifle for $1700.00 no problem. Heck of it is, I don't really want the damn thing and I am unsure how hard it would be to flip for profit. Did I screw up?

It’s not a MARS lower so it would be slightly cheaper on the used market.

It's only worth is what someone is willing to pay for it. How long has the lgs been sitting on it? If you flip it for a 400 dollar profit in 6 months you couldn't make that on any investment in the same time period.
Risk reward is a coin flip.

Watch for it in the px here for about $500 more….

It hurts to pass on something just to watch it gone when you figure it out. I’ve done that a few times here in the px section. Of course it probably dodges a few scammers along the way as well

Just from recognition that upper would probably go gutted for $800 (quads are harder to find used in my experience), BCG/CH $400, Barrel (probably a 16” CL 7.62) $300-$350.

Put you around $1500 just for the upper just estimating but safe to say $1200 without barrel is reasonable. Then $300 for the barrel itself

Scope would maybe net you $400.

Sell just those and you’re already profiting over the maybe $1700 you could have bought it for. Less shipping of course

Lower probably $700 ish ballpark guess. It’s not a mars so a little less sought after imho but comes complete and appears to have the sopmod stock

Could have kept it and had a steal of a deal in your safe or probably flipped for $2000 + whatever the scope would be worth separately

My numbers are just estimates from when I bought/sold my MWS parts. I know if I could’ve got that for $1700 I wouldn’t have made it to the bank fast enough. Probably have a $1300 LMT MWS said and done when I parted with the optic

Of course you could loose on the sale as well but I don’t see anything here that results in you not having found a deal or coming out behind had you went forward with the sale
