Hey Hide members,
I realize there is a photo thread but I would like to provide more information than "suregrip, xxx muzzlebrake etc"

I recently picked up my LMT MWS in .308 win and the quality is amazing. The upper and lower reciever appear to be blemish free, minus around the right side magazine release. (see photo below)
IMG_0722.jpg

The rifle has an ambidextrous mag release, which is very *cough same* similar to the KAC style. I have small hands and am able to reach both releases with ease.

The stock charging handle appears to be of KAC decent, but upon closer inspection, there is no gas busting design built in. It does however have an improved small tac latch built in.

The bolt carrier group's quality is amazing. The carrier itself is hard chromed, and the bolt appears to be coated in almost an NP3 like coating. It features duel ejectors and an improved seal for the gas bands. The bolt lugs come beveled down from the factory.

The carrier features a captive firing pin retaining pin, and is deeply staked.
IMG_0713.jpg

The front of the bolt carrier has a bevel where the chamber meets the carrier face. Reason? unknown feel free to chime in.

Re: LMT 308 Review

The bolt carrier has machining marks to reduce drag on rounds sitting in a magazine.
IMG_0717.jpg

Moving on to the barrel. The chamber is cut clean. (the copper "rust marks" are from firing the rifle earlier)
IMG_0719.jpg

The 18" SS barrel features a rifle length gas system, and the tube is fully protected by the hand rail.
IMG_0748.jpg

The rifling is clean (dust in bore)
IMG_0741.jpg

the stock parts arn't bad either
IMG_0741.jpg

IMG_0732.jpg
the rear is fully windage and elevation adjustable, and the front is adjustable for elevation

Removing the barrel is easy as unscrewing the 2 screws
(the screws are equal length, so you can't F* up)

IMG_0734.jpg

The chamber is beefy, and heavy and the contour is a medium consistent profile, until the gas block. The 6 inches past is similar to a M16's barrel end, but slightly thicker.

The gas tube is supported close to the chamber to prevent damage.
IMG_0739.jpg

the reciever itself is protected by a steel blocking plate
IMG_0743.jpg

re-torque the bolts to 140in/lbs with a good torque wrench.
IMG_0744.jpg

the LMT stock features 2 storage compartments and smooth sides, so no facial hair ripped out
IMG_0746.jpg

there are 2 orings to prevent water from seeping in
IMG_0747.jpg

the buffer is H3

Re: LMT 308 Review

Nice pics and review...oh yeah, nice rifle as well;)

Like their little brothers, the MWS just oozes quality, robustness, and overall confidence.....and one needs to look no further than the MWS's complete BCG to gain an appreciation for the quality in these rifles.

I wanted to sleep with that BCG the first few nights I had my MWS home:)

Re: LMT 308 Review

Awesymoto, I hope the pictures weren't taken while you were sitting in your Mom's basement in your underwear? Just Kidding, sorry I coudn't resist.

I'll have to take a look at my LMT's right side mag release, as I don't recall the rough looking machine work for the releaf of the button.

One thing I need to ask, I have a difficult time closing the upper receiver down onto the lower receiver because of the extreamily tight tolerences. Do you, or anyone else notice this?

Thanks for the pictures, I wish they would have been available when I was doing research prior to purchasing my MWS.

Re: LMT 308 Review

My MWS is tight as well but make sure that your BCG and charging handle are fully inserted before you attempt to close the upper and lower.

The rifle itself is very well machined well beyond the mil-spec standard.

Re: LMT 308 Review

My brand new MWS came out of the box with about a half dozen nicks in the finish and barrel had to be re-torqued before it would shoot decent groups. My 5.56 LMT CQB was perfect from the get go.

Re: LMT 308 Review

took it out today shot 60 rounds at 100 & 500. 100 was holding sub minute, but realistically just around 3/4.
500, no idea but 12" disk steel was no problem.

no jams, smooth shooter... lesson learned comming from a fixed stock, do not place rear bag under collapsing stock squeeze lever. you will be hit in the face with recoil.

this is true, however, it came with collapsing... Lucky me my Oaks saved my face....

Re: LMT 308 Review

Re: LMT 308 Review

Thanks for the thread Moto. Glad you are having a great time with your MWS. I so can not wait for my glass to show up and take her out. You plan on getting any replacement barrels at all or in different calibers?

I forgot to post my accident pic... no no plans for extra barrels until i get my Impala back.... I would like a .243 just for S&G's... but otherwise i'm looking into a precision 5.56 rig.

The LMT MWS is a real treat, coming from a DPMS SASS its familiar but everything on it is overdone. Going hog hunting, and yote' shooting soon, should be productive...
