I searched for a while But I need an up to date opinion. A shop near me has a LMT 308 in stock for $2800. I have a bunch of "AR" rifles in various brands but I started to upgrade to the Big Boy 308. I have a great Armalite AR-10T that has been upgraded and shoots well but for some reason I now want one with a 16in barrel and sopmod stock. The question is: With all the talk about Larue, GAP, and LMT back ordered is this a good deal? I could have it in my hands tomorrow.

Any help would be great

Thanks ncb. I should have also stated that it is Jersey Legal so not sure if that drove up the price. I also saw an Armalite AR-10T carbine for 1675. I love my full size AR-10T and maybe this would work. I cant pull the trigger on an Larue since I have zero patience for waiting over a year. I have a few GAP built bolt guns but for some reason the LMT seemed interesting with the barrel switching concept

It does have the CL barrel and a pinned stock.

Jersey Legal I assume means a target crown and a pinned sopmod.

I live in MA so conditons/economy are similar. Id say your deal isnt bad. LMT charges more for the ghey, neutered, crown. Some other guys on here commenting that live in free states have the luxury of free market competition and get better pricing. You and I need to move to get that.

LMT pins the SopMod with a screw. Remove the screw the stock moves. There are three holes in the tube. Only one is tapped. I think the tube they use on the compliant guns is close to rifle length. The SopMod wouldnt collapse all the way to the receiver if you wanted it to. Reality to shoot the rifle you wont use it fully collapsed either. What you can do is remove the screw and have the lug on the tube drilled/tapped to your preferred stock setting. If you plan on getting a different stock buy the lock and pins from Brownells to make the SopMod functional again and sell it for some good money.

I love my LMT. Its the only .308 AR I have ever owned or fired. I ended up buying a LMT .223 great stuff.

I had Clint at Heavy Buffers thread my target crown and install a Surefire muzzle brake. I probably would have done that any way if it were an A2 barrel end.

I'm sure for that area it's probably a good price things up north are normally more expensive than here in NC. Let's us know what you decided. It's a great rifle I have been happy with mine. I'm getting slightly over 1 MOA with fgmm 175 rifle could prob do better I'm new to rifle shooting esp gas guns. Gonna try some fgmm 168 this weekend and see if they do better every gun likes diff ammo just gotta figure out what it likes best.

What kind of muzzle device is on it? They can be expensive in it own right. Sucks living in Jersey. I have mostly Surefire breaks pinned on my guns and the go for about $135 then add in pinning it and the stock. So add at least $200 to the cost of a non compliant rifle.

Not sure of the muzzle device. I was told it has one so its not a target crown. I use Battle comp on all my 5.56 ARs and my AR-10T has a target crown. I also have a smith coast guard break on my M1a USMC DMR clone since it has a pistol grip.

My main hesitance on buying this LMT is I hear 1moa is a maybe at best. My Armalite AR10 is .5-.75 all day and that was 1600 bucks.

I love my LMT
A little on the heavy side, but that is because this firearm is built like a "Tank"
A true battle rifle
As for accuracy, better than I can or would try to shoot with wn AR platform
I have the 5.56 as well
BTW have additional barrels for both!!!!!!
For the N'East price seems fine to me
If I could have another ........... I would shoot over and pick it up

not sure for everyone else, but my personal skills with my LMT is about 1moa, maybe .9moa ON AVERAGE... yes, I've averaged in the .7's on numerous 6group / 5shot targets with my LMT on my shootout threads, but that is not typical for me and I would say i'm a tad bit better than your average shooter.... that even goes for others with .308 LMT's, OBR's, GAP's, blah blah blah. At 100yards IMO it's about 40%rifle, 40%shooter, & 20%ammo.... and the shooter % increases the further out the target is.


.5,,,,,, even .75 all day long is a bold statement with any semi-auto .308


one last note.... any SCOPED .308 semi-auto is going to be a heavy bitch.. regardless of brand unless its rocking maybe a plastic non-float glacier guard and micro red-dot which IMO defeats the whole purpose of having a .308 AR.... me personally, I would not own a .308 AR unless its rocking a minimum 3-15 optic, but that's just me... even 2.5-10 would be pushing it for me.

Top left 5 shot group is 175 grain Federal Mk118LR. Bottom right 5 shot stringer is Speer 168 grain. Rifle is 1:10 CL 16 inch barrel. I have an 18 inch stainless barrel on deck, but don't see a need to change it out just yet. Price listed in your post is the upper edge. Can't beat an LMT with a stick.

LMT was my choice because it seemed to be the perfect combination of accuracy potential, good design and a manufacturer that I expect to stick around supporting my parts needs.

I think you will find other rifles that shoot better but the LMT shoots good enough. LMTs military contracts dont guarantee their company survival but it bodes well that there will be spares out there. The thing is a piece of machinery, its heavy because it is substantially built. Ill never need that survivability but I have a penchant for buying crap that will survive Armageddon.

Out of the box it will work for you. The LMT two stage is a pretty good trigger. I did replace mine with a Giessele but the MWS trigger took the place of the crappy single stage that came in my LMT CQB.

If price is your only sticking point get a Rock River or DPMS heavy barrel and just go shoot. Those brands seems to do well in the 100 yard shoot out. If you want really consistent groups Id suggest a caliber different than .308. Choosing .308 for a caliber in my mind has more to do with cost and availability than performance.

When I factored out buying LMT features other than groups played a role. Is pulling the barrel a plus for you? Is the monorail going to benefit your scope set up? What will you immediatly replace to set it up for you and what will that cost? Does the fact its build quality can be determined through meeting some published mil spec matter as opposed to the relative unknowns of a strictly commercial manufacturer? (Caveat all mil spec means to me is that there is a spec to follow as opposed to someone just deciding to grab any old metal and make a rifle. It does not necessarily mean better)

Im only capable of fan boying my decision. You have to decide based on your use and your personality if the LMT is worth $2800 compared to alternatives. Sounds like your happy with your AR10T does Armalite build a .308 carbine?

Here is some porn to consider. Both rifles now sport Surefire MBKS that are pinned/welded. The MWS wears Kac offset 200-600's under the scope now and the top mounted 200-600's are on the CQB which is waiting for a USO SR8M in FDE coating. When I look at these I use a slow stroke with an overhand, pinkie finger forward, grip - works for me.

Sounds like you are making a good choice for you. You know in your mind what you want. The right choice nags at you and your throat goes dry when you think about it. Your gut tells you it is right for you but.....possibly some factor, usually cost, holds you back.

If this describes how you feel about one of your choices save your money and buy that rifle.

Regret plays havoc with your mind and in the end you will spend the money anyway.

I totally agree with elfster1234. I have a NightForce NXS 3-15X50 scope with ZS and HST on my LMT and went with the PRS stock. Yes it is heavy but I don't plan on humping it thru the woods. As for groups @ 100 yards most 5 shot groups average just under 1 moa with 168 FGMM or my 168 grain SMK hand loads. It will occasionally shoot much tighter groups many around 0.7 moa but not consistently. The other day I shot a freak 5 shoot 100 group that measured 0.38 moa. Unfortunately all the other groups were between 0,75 moa and 1 moa, go figure.
With all the problems with LaRue trying to build their own barrels I am not sure I would wait for them to come up with a decent barrel that meets their standards in a timely manner.
