Hey fellas. Need an honest opinion from the guys who have these rifles. First off let's start with the lmt. I picked it up march 18th of this yr so I haven't had it that long. Initially I liked the rifle, it was a well built rifle. Now I don't know much about rifles as I'm just getting started into this but can anyone give me some pros and cons of the guns mentioned. I'm thinking If I do go with the other guns I was going to sell it just to get it out of my hands so I can start with the next. But my main draw back of the lmt is the weight! The thing is pretty heavy I mean yea I could just go bulk up at the gym but naa, it will take to long. Anyway as far as accuracy weight reliability what are you guys seeing in these rifles, I've heard on here that 1- 1.5 inch groups are good for semi autos in which I'm getting those groups. Now you ask what am I looking for? I'm looking for something that I could fire standing up if need be as well as A rifle that in a prone position I can reach to 800 plus yards. Is that asking to much out of these guns?? Someone school me if I'm in over my head. The rifle is stock with 90 rounds through it.

I think they are all great rifles. If you are looking solely for precision, I would go with the JP (only speaking from research, no first hand experience). I have a SCAR 17 and I love the rifle. I use it for coyote hunting and in the event that I had to grab a gun and run, I think it would be the SCAR for me. It is just a great handy rifle in my opinion and appears to be plenty accurate for what I use it for.

I am a long time LMT MRP junkie but the MWS was too much of a pig for my taste. The other turn off was that one of the nice features of the MRP, the tight fit between upper and lower, was not existent on the MWS specimens I fondled. There are easy ways to fix this but at over three grand I expect a bit more than the average rattle trap.

I opted for the SCAR which is an amazing design IMO. It is currently held back by the 16" 1-12 barrel and I hope either FN or a reputable aftermarket vendor will fix this. Better yet, FN would release the sniper version (model name escapes my right now) to the public at a bearable price and with plenty of barrel options including 6.5CM.

The standard 17S is very accurate (example here: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting...cellent-accuracy-load-scar17.html#post3110760), just a bit short in barrel length and too slow in twist to go 800+ with confidence. People have done it but it looks borderline. (If nobody has the mercy to supply LR barrels, I will fire up the lathe and turn one myself. The extension and other critical parts are available within a few weeks.)

On the other end of the distance spectrum (CQB) the SCAR 17 is extremely fast and controllable for a 7.62.

No experience with your third option.

I have an LMT MWS and agree it's quite heavy. It took well over 100 rounds before it shot 1 moa sometimes better. If I had it to do over I should have spent a few $$$ more and gotten a JP LRP 07. I shot a few of them and are light by comparison to the MWS and each I shot was well under 1 moa consistently.

Thanks fellas I guess I just wanted other opinions on this. The store around my house has a scar ready to go but I will have to wait for the jp. I'm leaning towards the jp as well just because I heard scar mods are pretty hard to come by. But I'll more than likely go with the jp. Now to go let go of my lmt. Thanks fellas appreciate the help. Oh one other think I'm looking for a bolt action as well. Have anyone heard of tikka?? I handled one them seem on par with remington 700? Anyone can chime in on this?

I loved the MWS but it's a bit of a pig. I unfortunately don't have enough money to own them all and ended up trading my MWS for a SCAR 17, so far pretty happy with the outcome. For me they shoot about the same with groups in the .8-1.2 moa range for the scar and .5-1 moa for the lmt if I do my part (harder with te scar due to the trigger). Trigger on the scar is terrible but with a little polishing it's useable. If I was going to have to carry a rifle it would be the scar over the lmt, for pure bench shooting I'd pick the LMT. I have no personal experience with the JP but I hear great things about them, my understanding is it takes the pros of both the scar and lmt (lightweight, phenomenal accuracy) but you're gonna end up paying a premium for it.

Would probably get more responses out of te bolt action section but it's my understanding that Tikkas are great rifles from the factory and will outperform a stock remington but there are more aftermarket parts for the rem

The tikka's action I handled was much smoother than my remington action

Get the LRP, you will love that rifle. The weight of the rifle, combined with the substantial lack of recoil impulse, makes for one hell of a system. I had a friend out shooting mine not too long ago, and he is new to LR shooting. He was pounding steel with it at 900 and 1000 like he'd been doing that shit for years. It is ridiculous how accurate JP's rifles are, I sometimes feel it will outshoot my custom bolt, but I am too afraid to try it!!! HAHA!!!

ETA - I like the screen name, OP. My kids call me, "Dat Dude Daddy." I thought I was the only "Dat Dude."

Samnev. Yea I've heard a few good things about tikka just not much and the guy at turners was trying to get me to get one. I held off for now though. And FALex yea I am going to go with he lrp I've just heard nothing but good things from the guys at jp. Hell I called them and had one of they sales guys give me the whole run down. I have about 2 weeks till it ships so I can't wait. And about the screen name yea haha yes it stuck with me from back when I was a contractor. So I guess that makes 2 of us.

Just like FALex said get LRP, I have had mine for about 2 years now and it has been nothing short of spectacular. This rifle is super accurate but what I loved most is the low recoil this rifle produces. It is so soft and smooth and gets right back on target. What really sold me though was when I saw one broke down and was able to see the QUALITY and TIME put into making this rifle, Some people call it a work of art, I AGREE.

If you want an out of the box hunting rifle they (tikka) and CZ would be my pick. For a target rifle I think a savage or remington 700 with a heavy synthetic stock and bull barrel is better.
