I've spent several months reading and researching all the brands of 308 ARs, and have narrowed my choice down to these two. I realize they are very different rifles in terms of their original purpose, but am hoping to get a bit of input from those who have had an opportunity to try them. Please let me know if you think my assessment is accurate. My impression is that the JP is a highly refined, extremely accurate rifle that is designed for competition while the LMT is perhaps a bit more rugged design that may be a little less accurate, but is very reliable. While the intended design of these may be gaming vs battle, my realistic usage is probably neither. I don't presently shoot in competition and the likelihood of me ever being in a gun battle is pretty slim. The rifle is most likely to spend its life between the vault and the shooting range (600 yds max). Given this, which of the rifles would seem to be the better choice and provide the more satisfying ownership experience.

Thanks,
Mike

Take your pick. I don't think you'll be dissatisfied either way.

I get to take my MWS home next week

Re: LMT MWS or JP LRP-07

I too have been researching the high end AR market for several months. Ive learned a ton! By high end, I mean The GAP-10, POF, Larue OBR, LWRC REPR, LMT, and the JP LRP07. These rifles all seem to be around the 3k +/- range and have very comparable features/reviews/following/accuracy.

In the end, I went with the JP LRP-07. I love the quality and the fact that every JP rifle is highly customizable (more so than the others). It seems there is a misconception about JP rifles (at least from my internet surfing). That is that JP rifles are competition rifles for three gunners only. If you want a real "battle rifle" whatever that means, you need to go with"xxxxx" rifle. Personally, i wont be going into "battle" anytime soon nor am I am competion three gun shooter. I just wanted an extemely high quality AR-10 that was accurate and could be customized exactly how i wanted it. Im confident that the LRP 07 will fit the bill. I'll know for sure in 8-10 weeks!

Re: LMT MWS or JP LRP-07

Think about it for a minute, what better gun to trust then one that is being used day after day in competition. Personally to me it is a No Brainer. J P lrp-07 ( in fact I will be ordering one in the next few weeks ), It will not be cheap, but will be HIGH QUALITY.

Re: LMT MWS or JP LRP-07

Which one do I trust more...

One that is used in competition day after day,

or....

One that is used in combat day after day,

Hmmm, I think I'll go with the LMT.

Re: LMT MWS or JP LRP-07

My next .308 AR10 will be a JP, I wish it had been my first. The other .308 rifles referred to in this post are great, but they are heavy. The JP feels like an AR15 rather than an AR10.

Re: LMT MWS or JP LRP-07

I have both.

JP feels like a big .223 AR. Slick, sweet trigger, super accurate.

MWS is heavier, more .mil in build, also about $1000 less than the JP.

MWS has rails a mile long, can hang everything on them. JP isn't set up that way, still can put 2-4" rails to suit your needs.

Both of mine are wearing US Optics SN-3s's. Illuminated JNG's, EREK, ERGO.

Take a look...

Thanks for the nice comparison photos. I didn't realize there was such a price difference. The JP website shows $3299 and the LMT $3396. Am I missing something or is the street price significantly different?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: LMT MWS or JP LRP-07

$3500 is what I paid for the JP (no BUIS, got OD finish for an extra $200, so...)

You should be able to buy a LMT MWSE (chrome lined barrel) for around $2500+/-.
You can buy a MWSF (S.S. barrel) for $3000+/-.

Check GB.

I'd buy the JP directly from JP. The LMT is one that I would buy anywhere that had the lowest price.

Good luck.

Re: LMT MWS or JP LRP-07

I'm very impressed with the handling chara. of the JP ctr-02 and lrp-07; both share the same diameter foreend. Both feel extremely fast to bring to position---no excess weight or bulk.Easily the Ferrari of the ar platform. Just my opinion.

Very well put. And that boys and girls is why I own a MWS.

And that, boys and girls, is how it's done.

Re: LMT MWS or JP LRP-07

Having had both I completly agree with Trident1982.

However as mentioned before it depends on what you want it for.

If all you are going to do is keep it in the safe and at times shoot targets out to 600 yards, save your money and buy a 223 which can easily shoot that distance at half the cost.

With the LMT, you the ability to switch barrels/calibers along with optics in apx 10 minutes if you would choose to do so.

The LMT will shoot all day at 3/4 MOA with factory rounds.

Nuff said.

Re: LMT MWS or JP LRP-07

I'm sure you're right about the cost savings with a 223, but I don't think that would satisfy my desire for owning a 308AR.

My biggest concern with the LMT is what I've read about the trigger being rough. I haven't actually had the chance to try one myself, so I'm going off of other's descriptions. FWIW, I have dry fired the JP and thought the trigger was outstanding. I'd rather not spend $3000 on a rifle and still have to "upgrade" parts.

What has been your experience with barrel switching and repeatability? If a guy had one scope zeroed for each barrel and switched out the matched pair, how close would you expect to be?

Then get the JP and be done with it instead of having people try to talk you into something that you clearly don't want (LMT). For what it's worth, JP makes their own triggers and that is why the JP rifle has a good trigger. The POF, LWRC, and a few others come with Geissele triggers but that cost is added to the bottom line.

When I was looking for a rifle, having to swap the trigger was be the least if my concerns, at any price point. My POF came with a Geissele SSA so I bought the SSA-E, installed it in less than 5 minutes, and sold the SSA.

I put the Geissele in mine and yes it is expensive and is an "extra" expense.

I'm not trying to talk you in to a LMT. You have to figure out what you want and what you need.

As far as barrel switching and repeatability, I have done so and have seen no difference.

Heck, it's only money......buy both and be done with it. You buy one and you will always be wondering if you made the right choice. If you can't swing both then make the best educational choice and don't look back.

Some laugh at that statement but I'm serious. You have 1 pistol in one caliber ? 1 shotgun in 1 guage. I know I don't.

I have a GAP, LaRue and the LMT.

Do I need 3 gas guns in .308 ? About as much as I need another dick.

Which one do I like the best ?

All 3.
