Looking at a Lmt mws 308, I will run the rifle suppressed 90% of the time. What upgrades/parts have you all found is needed to run reliability with a suppressor?

Thanks
Doug

I have a MWS with the 16” SS barrel.
I run a SureFire 762RC on it 100% of the time.
Other than a Geissele Hi Speed DMR trigger it is completely stock.
The gun displays zero symptoms of being overgassed. It runs 100%, cycles smoothly and pitches the brass where it should. It’s reliable as an anvil.
I am left handed and therefore more sensitive to overgassed rifles than the other 90% of the population. I get almost no gas to the face and zero crud on my glasses. The combination of the MWS and the SureFire is a pleasure to shoot.

I read posts about the MWS being overgassed and I honestly don’t know where it comes from. You have to remember that this is the exact gun issued to the Brits, and New Zealand, and, I believe a few are in the hands of Canadian and Aussie troops as well.

I have seen pics of SAS snipers with MWS’s equipped with SureFire suppressors as well. Pretty sure they haven’t switched out buffers, springs or gas blocks on their rifles.

I believe that most of the issues arise from people using cans that exhibit excessive back pressure, a side effect of the mistake of chasing decibels in a center fire rifle can.

Based on my limited experience (sample size of one) if you go with the SureFire, you will be fine. Any other can I can not say for sure.

My MWS had a heavy buffer and corresponding spring from heavybuffers.com when I traded for it. I run an SAS Arbitor on it and is seems about right. No other modifications.

It throws brass around 2 O'Clock and I don't notice any gas in the face. This is on a 16" CL barrel.

On my quest for the perfect semi .308 I've also landed on the MWS.308. Mine has the 16" chrome lined barrel and I'm still getting it broke in. Mine runs 99% of it's life with a SF Suppressor and it has been a flawless machine thus far.

I do believe SF's socom series cans were created by design to reduce back pressure on your FA military weapons. (hence your 6oclock carbon leak from suppressor mount)

I've shot 3 MWS .308's suppressed and they've all had SF suppressors. So sorry if this is no help!

I don’t have a surefire can, I have a Thinderbeast 30p-1. I wonder how that can increases back pressure?

Lrdchaos, I own a LM8MWS, run 100% suppressed. Using a SilCo Hybrid and Harvester BigBore. The gun is/was overgassed.

Now as far as choices...you can go 3 different ways in terms of managing gas on your rifle. I have a couple of posts on this item.

1) A GemTech Suppressor Carrier, the drawback is that it has an on and off setting only. Reliability was ok, but the price was high (200+). (I found this to be the least desirable because its only on/off)

2) Install a heavy buffer from heavybuffers.com, depending on what your config is he offers a spring and buffer combo, buffer is about 10-11Oz. This helps with the timing and reliability when running suppressed. It will run you about $100. (Id try this first for most users this is the best option, there is a BUT)

3) My preferred option is to use a combination of a heavy buffer ad an adjustable gas key. The gas key can be tuned to your ammo and the buffer will help with timing. This has created an incredibly reliable and tunable gas mitigation strategy. The reason the adjustable gas key is a good option is at the time you swap a barrel for another factory barrel as those we are unable to change the gas block.

I guess there is another last option once your barrel burns out, get a new barrel made with your extension and sleeve from the burned out barrel. Riverbend Gun Company in KC, Jeff Hayes, can get one done for you...he is an awesome gas gun smith, he used to work at GA Precision and now has his own shop.

good luck and if you have questions let me know...there is other users on this forum, elfster1234 is one I believe...he is really knowledgeable on this platform. Hopefully someone else might chime in.

I've had a few MWS's, still have one that I never shoot. I haven't ran a SF can as mentioned above but the cans I have used (AAC and SAS) on the platforms were super over gassed, more so than any other suppressed 308 platform I've ever shot. The gas in my face is pretty brutal. Unsuppressed the platform is great though and incredibly accurate.

Piston is where it's at for suppressed use. My plan is to get a Sword International MK17, it's the only piston gun I've come across that didn't have any POI shift or accuracy issues. They're pricey but they're very nice rifles.

No experience with SAS suppressors, but, having owned AAC stuff in the past, I can say that if you’re running a SDN-6, it’s not the rifle that’s overgassed...

My LMT MWS is overgassed with my SiCo Omega. I have used it on my 16 and /0” bbls both. I think it is a tough AR platform. I dont shoot it much. I prefer my Grendel

I have a JP Grendel with standard bolt and buffer system and going to run a SiCo Saker.
What is your suggestion for this rifle/caliber/supressor combination? I have had a 3 gun friend suggest to me a KYNTEC recoil system.
