If you went to the range and the mirage was pretty bad, and you were in the process of load development, would you continue to shoot, or save it for another day?
I personally would save it. Especially if you were shooting at a target out past a 300 yard distance.
It makes OCW testing much more inline with your shooting type if you place the target out there to see the nodes where your Match has them. I have been using 700 yards for OCW, fine charge weight tuning and seating depth. Seems to work great for me.
I usually do load development at 100 yards, but mirage today was unusually bad. My groups suffered and I'm leaning towards the mirage. I'll load up the same charge weights and try again. Ugh.
I hear ya. set up a target today at 600 going to shoot test loads for a new bullet on paper and after seeing how bad the mirage was I ended up just shooting my old faithful load at steel. Figured I’d save the test loads for a better day
