I recently bought an ar-10 in 243. I would like some input into developing a load for it, currently I have winchester brass with CCI large rifle primers, nosler 80 grain ballistic tips and Varget powder. I really like varget for my .223 loads and was hoping to be able to use it for the .243 also. Does any one have any experience with these componets that could give me some advice. My goal is to find a load that is really accurate and start stockpiling. What kind of accuracy should I expect from this gun? I was hoping to be able to shoot 600 yards with it but most shots would be in the 300 to 400 yard range. Thanks in advance for any input and I really like this forum seems like a lot of good advice from good people. 308 bolt action is next on the list after I get this thing figured out, so I will need some help there also. Thanks again

Re: Load for .243

I have taken (3) 243s I have built to the range over the last year to test them.

6mm 65 gr Honady Vmax moly, 40 gr Surplus bulk IMR4895 that behaves like H322, 2.7" OAL. jammed into the lands

No extractor groove growth in 3 firings of same piece of brass.
3510 fps measured
0.54" 5 shot group at 50 yards
Primer decapping and re priming was tight on all 9 rounds returned from the range

Re: Load for .243

Loads with IMR-4064. This is what shot best out of mine!
