I don't lube pistol with the carbide dies.

I want to start loading my PRS ammo on the 650.

Watched guys load rifle on youtube. They lube the cases then run them through the press to a finished round.

I've always tumbled after sizing to get the lube off when loading on the single stage. Figured that I didn't want lube between bullet and case neck.

Does the lube inside the case neck matter?

Yes. You’ll fine that without it, you are going to get stuck cases at worst; and rough cycling at best.

Too much and you will get powder sticking to the inside of the neck after the case is charged.

It’s a fine line to walk from “just enough” to “too much”. I lay my brass on it’s side in a cardboard box lid, then hit it sparingly with hornady one shot. I roll it back and forth a while, then lay them all flat, and give them another quick shot. Then i roll them again. I take a neck brush, give that a shot of the one shot, and hit each case once. You dont want too much, but you do want to keep the neck expander from getting stuck.

Most guys including myself have a brass prep tool head and a loading tool head.

brass prep tool head:resize and deprime. Trim to length. Neck expander.

loading tool head: powder drop. Bullet seater. Crimp does.

take clean lubed brass and run all through the prep tool head. Then tumble lube off and swap to loading tool head. Load clean tumbled brass on the loading tool head.

it’s sort of a PITA but I prep all of my brass at once then dry tumble it all. So when I want to load I can just grab it and load.

I use a wet tumbler for precision rifle brass but I dry tumble any bulk brass. The steps above or what I do for .223 and have loaded thousands.

It's a lot of trouble but I resize/decap on the rockchucker, the tumble the lube off, then measure/trim. Only at this point do I move to the RL550 for priming to completion.

you guys feel like you get a consistent enough powder drop for prs type shooting on the progressives? just using dillons standard volumetric powder drop or something else?

ive always been of mind that 223 /308 for plinking would be fairly consistent out of my dillon, but havent thought it would be good enough for low s/d numbers for consistent distance shooting.

but maybe im overthinking how low an s/d needs to be

Now brand liquid Lanolin and 99% alcohol mix. Carbide expander. Load all my ammo on one 550 tool head. Once finished I wipe them off as i put the loaded rounds into boxes. V3 for powder measuring. I do all my loading this way. Switched between different lubes over the years, this works for now. Don't understand the 2 toolhead method. David G Tubb's videos from 20 years ago show this procedure from start to finish. Figured if it worked for him, who am I too disagree. Hope this helps.

I size and deprime on a single stage, tumble, then load progressively.

Ive also tumbled loaded rounds to remove the lube...takes about 10 minutes in clean corncob.

Ive also done nothing and it seemed to work just fine.

223 just sucks to reload in bulk unless you have a 1050 or better.
