Please post any loads you have for the 50 BMG. I saw the thread for .338-50BMG but just about every post was regarding the .338Lapua. I have H50BMG on hand for powder. The gun is a stock Barret 82 and the brass is all 1x Barret M33 brass. I am going to need to order bullets and I figured I would go with the AMAX. Open to suggestions.

Please list gun, barrel length, twist if you have it. Feel free to post any load not just specific to the 82. Thanks

Re: Loads for 50 BMG

Have you looked around on Barretts forum? While I was waiting to come back home after I ordered my 82 I read EVERYTHING I could find about the M82A1's & M107's.

There is a link to the forum on the Barrett site so it is pretty easy to find or get to if you want to check it out.

And if you can get the A-max's shooting good please let me know how.

Re: Loads for 50 BMG

Have a Barrett M99. For the AMAX 750 grains, you can start H50BMG at about 205 - 210 grains and slowly work up. I am still working up a load on the AMAX for my gun. Watch the OAL, since there is a difference in the length of the bullet between the older and newer AMAXes.

I load my 690 grains FMJ in LC 08, CCI#35, with 233 grains of H50 BMG at a 5.500". Since my gun is a single load, so I can play with the COAl a bit. Your gun will be limited by the mag. length. Good luck.

Re: Loads for 50 BMG

Is the new A-max shorter?

If so I will have to try it in my 82. To the OP,.. Did you do anything to your bolt/charging handle to keep from getting dinged up brass?

Re: Loads for 50 BMG

The old ones measures at 2.7" and new ones are at 2.5".

I don't have to do anything to by bolt. Brass doesn't get dinged too much with each shoot. Your 82 however will eat brass for breakfast, lunch or dinner depending when you shoot. LOL

that question was for the Orginal Poster,.. I know the 99's are pretty good on brass,.. 82's,... Yeah not so much.

I have about 300 spent cases,. And I think I'll only be able to use half of them, this is just for the charging handle dents on the shoulder or neck, I haven't not even started looking for other flaws in the brass. With my 82 I took a section of 3/8 fuel line and slipped it over my charging handle,. I have yet to test it but I am hoping it works.

That's about the only cure I've heard of other than wrapping the handle in tape. Most guys say it works pretty good.

As for loads my best grouping so far out of my AR50 is 224gr of H50BMG behind a 750gr Amax seated at 5.75OAL. 220gr wasn't terrible either. 218gr at 5.5 was ok but had a couple fliers in there. I shot a bunch fo 800gr boreriders too and I haven't found a damn thing that worked there.

I have read the same tip as you to put some sort of rubber on the charging handle as well to reduce the "ding" in the case. Where I live most ranges do not want 50's shooting there for one reason or another and there is no natural back stops like hills (it is FLAT) to stop the bullet so I really have not been shooting it at all. Kind of became a safe queen but I will do something like the rubber hose trick and report back.

At this point from a practical stand point, not shooting it much I think I might just stick with factory ammo. As we all know the 82 is not the best gun for accuracy and the volume I shoot, or lack there of, I do not think the investment in a 50BMG press, dies, ect that I would ever recoup my initial expense.

I do appreciate all the tips and if anyone does have some pet loads for the 82 please post so that others can benefit.

I am thinking about selling it to help fund an Cheytac M200. If anyone wants to trade let me know LOL.
