Im sorry but i must disagree with this statement. I think it boils down to components and shooter. I picked up a LA locally for dirt cheap and am building a 308 la 18" barrel for a truck gun. I own both in 308 already la and sa for target guns and dont find much of a difference in the length of actions, I really like to be able to let the big pills hang out of the brass in my la rifle </div></div>
the theory is the short action is stiffer, goes with the theory single shot is stiffer (no magazine cutout), goes with short barrel is stiffer than long, goes with the theory a short column of powder burns more consistently than long
a lot of splitting hairs that is hard to prove at the target
mostly it is folks getting into the go around that if your weiner is bigger than mine I must prove that somehow mine is still better </div></div>
LOL awesome
Speaking from personal experience, I love long action 308s for single round feeding. The one negative that sometimes showed it's ugly head though, rounds sometimes nose dived on me while feeding from the internal magazine and I had to perform corrective actions.
Most of the time when this happend I was rushing and did not seat them properly fully to the rear in the magazine. Newbie error at the time. Which do I prefer, as with anything shooter preference in my humble opinion. The one plus about having a 308 in LA. If you ever decide to bump up in caliber, you already own the action. My 2 pennies
