I'm accumulating parts for a long range 300WM build. I'll be shooting at 1000 and 1250yds with it and I'm looking for a good optic like the NF Competition. I won't be using it for hunting or any other abusive conditions, so it doesn't have to be built like a tank. Any other suggestions on high magnification optics that cost less than the 2014 NF Competition? I would like to spend less than $2000 if there are comparable options. All of this being said, I haven't looked thru a 2014 competition for comparisons. I imagine someone here has experience with the 2014 competition at 1000yds+.

Well first you will need a scope that can handle the recoil over a long period of time. You will want a FFP scope and I prefer Mil over MOA. Right now one of the best deals is the Vortex 5x20 RAZOR HD GEN 1 they can be had I hear on the hide for under $1400 so that leaves some of you budget for a quality mount to put it in. I have a 5x20 and used that until I got a 5X25X56 S&B. I have no complaints with the RAZOR at all. I currently have it on my .308.

I shot 1k bench rest for 3 years using a NF 8-32x56 with NP-2DD reticule. For what it was intended to be used for, scope worked perfectly. Good glass, held zero, 1/8 moa clicks allowed you to really zero in.

gen 1 razor for 1400 i dont think you can get much more bang for your buck than that. i have been really impressed with mine. i have also been realy impressed with their customer service as well

I just received my ebr3 10mil per turn razor. Fantastic scope for a great price at the moment I feel it is well worth the money.

Just mounted up my ebr3 10 mil turret model.

Turrets are fabulous very crisp and tactile, glass is great, nice and bright and crisp. reticle is nice and defined and simple. Parralax is very user friendly and not sensitive to dropping out of focus, eye relief larger than most.

Eurooptic are first class!!!

look forward to taking it out!!

What cartridge were you using? The 300WM is hard on delicate optics but I would think the NF could handle it.

I have a Vortex Razor gen II that I could use, but it will be going on my 6mm when the new stock gets in. And yes the 6mm will shoot to 1250yds so why am I building a 300WM? not really any good reason, one day I want to hunt elk at longer ranges.

Depending on how far you are looking at pushing it elevation adjustment is going to be key as well. On my 300wm I originally had the Bushnell DMR 3-21 and had ~28 mils of elevation available not including the reticle on a 30moa base. With elevation maxed and using a portion of the reticle I was able to push it to 2500 yards at ~26inhg of pressure. This was with my older/slower 230 load. I switched scopes several times on that rifle which included the Bushnell DMR, Vortex Gen1, Vortex Gen2 and now the Minox ZP5. For the money you will be hard pressed to find a better Extended Range optic than the Vortex Gen1, with the available elevation alone it's worth it.
