I have been acquiring parts over the last three months for my first precision long range rifle. I am looking at the 7mm LRM as my cartridge of choice. As of right now I have the following components
Kreiger 7mm 1-9tw @ 27" fluted blank RV contour
Holland Radial Baffle Muzzle Break 5/8" - 24 TPI
Mcmillan adj. A-5 w/ badger M5 bottom metal (LEFT HAND)
Jewell Trigger top left safety
Stiller TAC 300 Mag bolt face (LEFT HAND)
NightForce 5.5x22-50 HS ZS NPR-2

I will need the barrel threaded and chambered
install and time break
bed action
bead blast barrel

Now for my question - Would I be better off to buy a reamer from Gunwerks and send it to Long Rifles Inc. or should I let Gunwerks do the required gunsmithing. Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I might be a tad bias but go with Chad. Never worked with the guys at Gunwerks I thought they where TV host not gunsmiths. Also call Travis at RBros he s got a killer 7 cal. called the 7 Rogue you can also google it.Good luck on quest.

Highly recommend Chad. Excellent work on a timely basis.

You might also discuss chambering choices with him before you invest in a reamer.

I was in a similar position in july and ended up building a custom 7 dakota instead. I couldn't be happier with it, personally I found that there are some people so good at what they do they have absolute advantage. I would call chad and visit with him about what you want it to do and ask him for his input about the reamer if you decide to go that way and call ptg and order one to the specs specific to your situation.

Will gunwerks even take your parts for a build? They seem to want to sell their own over priced packages. Buy the reamer from Kiff, and send it to Dixon!

His rifles shoot very well. And his track record of contributing to the shooting community stands on it's own merits.

Dont even get me started on his shop dawg.....

Mr.Dixon is a major contributor to this forum. Search Chads post and you will find that Gunwerks couldn't even sweep his shop floor. I would talk to him before you buy a reamer.

Talk to Chad before buying a reamer, saw something on here about a new flush system he uses and he was gonna sell all his reamers and replace them with a different type that works better with his new system. Something like that.

LRI's Chad freely answers questions in the Gunsmith forum, gives great group buy deals to members, has an A+ rep with a very critical crowd, and loves his dog. This shouldn't be a tough decision, IMO.

Thank you guys for the responses. I have spoke with Gunwerks (briefly) and they were not able to provide me with information about their reamer spec except that they sell them for $186.00. I believe that Gunwerks and PTG have some type of agreement where they wont make you a reamer for 7mm LRM forcing you to make the transaction through Gunwerks and use the reamer that they have developed.

It's a rare moment when I truly get to elate over something. This is one of those moments.


Any success I've enjoyed is a direct reflection of the quality of people that make LRI. Having a dependable trustworthy staff makes this whole evolution so much easier. Reputations are so fragile and what I've come to realize is that once you have a good one its as needy as a newborn to maintain.

The people you lead ultimately define you.

That attitude is what makes for a great business leader
After seeing his work and knowing his background in building precision rifles for Olympic shooters and agencies that alone should be enough to choose LRI for your build over Gunwerx.
That said their are a host of fine rifle builders here and I doubt their is anything magical about Gunwerx reamer other than maybe some throating when any smith worth his salt can do for you.

I'm currently deployed, stopped into port just in time to call home and hear that Chad was personally delivering my LRI build to my family. I get it, that I live in Vegas, and LRI was going there for SHOT show anyways, but color me impressed.

You'd be hard pressed to get a better job done, and even harder for the kind of customer support LRI gives. The reputation is well earned.

I own a LRI built Rem 700 in 260. Everything from the machining, assembly, paint and shipping it back to me were 100%. I talked to Chad 2 times, and I can tell you, I'll be back. J

Chad's comment on the LongRifle's Inc team is spot on. During my .300 WSM and Tikka builds I heard from both Chad and John on multiple occasions about different aspects of the build. Total team operation and work that's second to none in my opinion!

I'm also late to the thread, but IMHO there is no choice here. It's the LRI team all the way. I have 2 of Chads builds in my safe and the 3rd is being finished now. I have had the pleasure of speaking with Chad a couple of times now and he is very knowledgable, friendly and open with information. The quality of the builds I have from that shop are as good or BETTER than any others I have seen. Not to mention how they shoot like a laser. He built me a .300 WM that has almost no recoil (<.223) and is almost boring it's so accurate. And that's with factory ammo.

no return calls, rifle been there since sept after I sent it back due to accuracy and velocity issues, after a barrel job on the group buy, I believe they do excellent work, I must be slipping thru the cracks somehow,,,,

One thing to keep in mind is product differentiation, while gunwerks does build a fine weapon the LRI team is without compare at working with the customer to provide them what the customer wants at a great price and high quality with an amazing turnaround time. In short I couldn't recommend them hogher
