I'll start off by admitting I know almost nothing when it comes to precision rifles. After months of research, the more I learn, the more I realize I'm behind the curve. I found this forum form listening to the Snipers Hide Podcast at work, and after a few months of listening and reading I figured I would join.

Shooting I am familiar with. I'm current military and law enforcement. I used to shoot IDPA, but I have about zero experience when it comes to long range.

So my game plan was to try and come and learn as much as I could, and try to decide on what my first precision rifle should be.

V/R,

Greeting, salutations.

Long range is about challenging the limits of your equipment and yourself.

You could get spendy and go looking for the long vistas, or you could get really close to that by shooting a .22LR out past 100yd. Either way it's a challenge and exposes you to the random forces, like the wind. Whichever flicks your Bic, but you will emerge with new knowledge about challenges and about yourself.

Whatever you do, take some moments to make sure you're not doing things that endanger others or yourself.

There is no substitute for experience, and you should probably find someone with that and get to know them. Meanwhile, you can still get a lot from books. For the new LR shooter, I like Cleckner.

We like questions. Sometimes we even answer them. Usually, there are opinions involved, and they usually differ. Just soak it all up and process it. Expect to get as many new questions out of that as actual answers.

We all have personalities, and some of us are doozies. It goes with the testosterone. Don't flinch, and try not to get yourself out on those limbs. As my ultimate hero Brett Maverick once put it, "Faint heart never filled a flush....

Welcome.
