Lookin for AR-10 suggestions

I just sold an LMT 308. It was a great rifle but I named her Ms Piggee caused she was so damn heavy. I want a 20” bbl for the velocity, Pmag compatible, 5 shot moa capable. And main thing not so damn heavy that I won’t take it. Dont really want to pay for JP, Gap, Seekns. Any ideas or thots?? Would prefer to stay with 308 but would consider 6.5CM. Also would shoot suppressed most of the time. Thanks!!

Suppressed and lightweight don't jive very well. Ok. Get a Aero M5 set. You can save some money going with a blem. Get a Faxon Match series 20" ss barrel that goes 2.4 pounds. Get your accuracy by handloading or using high quality ammo, no military stuff. Save a bit with some titanium parts, end plate, tube ring, gas block and flash hider. Couple of ounces off. Lightweight costs money. Go light on the scope! Try a 6x leupold FX. Larue Trigger. No lights, or bipod. Slim handguard. There ya go! Easy peasy. Now you can complain about the recoil! haha

As stated above, Aero M5 and a Faxon barrel is a good start for a build. 1 moa will be hard, 1.5 should be do-able. Adjustable gas block (I like the Syrac click adjustable) and a H3 buffer for the suppressed aspect. I cannot see where the saving of an once for Ti is worth the cost, but then I am cheap.

Only down side to the Aero M5 is that it uses the so-called "high" handguards to match a rail on the guard to the top of the receiver, which are a bit less common. DPMS receiver was originally this height, then went to the lower height as their standard. 0.210 tang verses a 0.150 tang height.

I built myself and my dad complete Aero M5 rifles and we love them. They both work great. Mine has the PRS so it's a bit heavier but his is not too bad. And we live in comie-fornia so they are featureless.

How light do you want it? I have a 5lb naked 6.5 CM built using 2A receiver/handguard, faxon 16" gunner barrel, smoke composites stock, empty buffer, titanium bcg, titanium parts, adjustable gas block, etc.... It shoots MOA to sub-moa in the first 30 rounds I've put through it.

The Aero receiver sets are heavy. Spend the money and get a 2A armament Xanthos billet set. I couldn’t believe the quality and lightweight of the set. Get the 2A armament rail as well. JP low mass bolt carrier too.

Then get a properly contoured barrel to keep weight down but doesn’t walk under heavy strings of fire.

That’ll save you a lot of weight right there.

If you go the DD route note that the new DD5 series doesn't have the Geissele trigger as far as I can tell. I have a DD5V2 and it is a sweet outfit that has never failed once.

I have 2 Aero ar10s. They have been great. Ar10s are not synonymous with being lite. I would look at the Aero M5 set "not there handguards" and then go lite wieght everything. SLR has some nice but light handguards for length. There is most likely liter stuff out there. Titanium anything you can get. Light is hard with everything being so heavy to start out with. Light wieght barrel. I had a 22" barrel on my 308 and just went with a 16" barrel to cut down on wieght. I still have a 6.5 creedmoor with a heavy 24" barrel. I would look at your budget and what you want it to do. Then decide how lite you want to go while staying in your budget and thoughts at use for the rifle.

that is pretty beefy

i thought my Scar 20S was a beast, and it is < 16lbs with a Mark 5HD scope and heavy accu-tac bipod.

@krw - have you looked into the Smith and Wesson MP10? It seems to have a decent reputation and is fairly cost effective for a large frame AR.

I sold my LMT due to a combo of weight and over gas (I had an earlier version prior to the LM8s).

Aero M5 with the Faxon 20" Big Gunner barrel. IMHO, most AR-308's can shed some weight in the barrel department. The Faxon Big Gunner strikes a good balance between lighter profile without being lightweight, and sufficient rigidity for follow-up shots, and having a possible suppressor hanging on the front end. No need to go full-pencil for weight savings.

With a decent M4 carbine stock (don't pick a heavyweight stock), e.g. MAGPUL CTR or B5 SOPMOD, and a 5.3oz buffer.

I just weighed my LMT MWS .308. I have a Fat Bastard Brake on it, I'm using LMT's 20" SS barrel, and I have their DMR stock on it. I have a Nightforce NXS 2.5-20 on it and with a fully loaded magazine in it....

17 pounds.

My custom posted in the px 22" .936 bartlein MEGA gasser weighs 11.75lb no mag or optic. Not the lightest but not the heavies. Tack driver though

F4 Defense has lightweight, accurate, reliable small frame AR10s in the SF10 series. Come in a variety of chamberings (308, 6.5CM, 7mm-08, etc) with Craddock or Proof barrels, DPMS G2 sized receivers, and best of all Superlative Arms adjustable gas blocks already installed. Lightest configuration is 5.85lbs unloaded.

Looks pretty ideal for OP.
