Rifle Scopes Looking at bushnell or vortex for a 6.5 creedmoor AR build.

I have asked in the auto rifle forum but it was more related to the whole rifle. So I will ask here.

I am a fan of both brands and will be sticking with one of these two companies.

Looking at

VIper PST FFP 4-16, (I have had this scope before and absolutely loved it. only reason I can think to change is to go higher magnification) 22oz

Viper PST FFP 6-24 (Had this scope and it just did not seem as clear to me as the 4-16 even at 16X but I may have just gotten a dud who knows) 23oz

Razor HD 5-20 35 oz

Bushnell DMR 3.5-21 (only downside is no illuminated reticle.) 34.89 oz

bushnell ERS 6.5-24 G2 27oz


As far as weight and features it is hard to take it from the vortex. Any of these Bushy's strike you as a better choice for plinking at 1K and hunting deer sized game?

Huge fan of ERS for the price: reticle a bit fat at full magnification. Glass-wise Vipers are not in the same category.

The viper or the viper pst are not in the same category? The VIper PST has always been extremely clear for me.

The razor and the dmr were in the 2014 scope shootout. (See the thread) under this forum, Made the dmr look like a really. Good value. Good glass and mechanical turret function. I think it beat the razor in both. But no illumination.

I have a 6-24 bushy. Gets a bit dark but usable over 20 x, Turrets are good and repeat fine, Great value, about three hundred under a dmr. Liberty optics is good to go for vortex and bushy

Razor is an excellent scope. Zero stop, illuminated reticle, perfect no click zeroing, FFP and good power range. The Bushy DMR is a good scope as well. Look at the features you want and need and make a choice.

Unfortunately the "2014 Scope Shootout" is going to be what is used by some to definitively rate scopes in black and white but one scope from one maker isn't how I would make a final decision. The write up shows some good stuff but it's to narrow a cross section of any scope to give a definitive answer or to be used as the only decision maker. Some of my personal experience doesn't jive with the testing in a number of those scopes which I have owned both good and bad. So my point is use the data as a partial point and not a definite.

It'll be a step up in price but the Razor HD is a great scope.

I may just go DMR. I read a few reviews saying glass was the same, just different turrets and zero stop.

Hey, just a heads up about Bushnell. My 6-24 ET G2 broke. I sent it back to Bushnell priority mail to try to speed things up as I have a match in two weeks. They received the scope on Aug 20, according to the tracking number, but on Mon Aug 25, they couldn't tell me if they even had it. Said to call back in a few days. Today I called them, (Aug 28) and my scope has been given a number, but will not be looked at for three or four more business days. They have had my scope a week and a day, and it will be several more days before they even look at it? I explained the upcoming match to them, and the cs rep said he would try to speed things up, and he would email me. I'm waiting to hear from him, but I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling. Time will tell. Up until it broke, I loved this scope. Are they so back logged with broken scopes that they are this far behind? If so, what's up with the qc on their construction. Just makes me wonder......

Get the 34mm tube ERS with the G2DMR reticle.

Someone asked what broke on my scope. Something inside has let go. The rifle will literally shoot right left right left, about 2" wide at 100 yds. I keep accurate notes on the rifle and track each shot. It will do this for several groups in a row, then will stay to one side for a few shots and then start back to r l r l again. I thought my rifle was tits up, as this scope was fantastic on the previous rifle, but once I figured out what happened, it let go about four rounds before I moved it over to the new rifle. Since I knew it wasn't the scope, and the new rifle wouldn't shoot, I put over 300 rounds of load dev through it trying to figure the rifle out. I was to stubborn to listen to friends who were saying it was the scope. This thing literally about drove me crazy. Before I sent the rifle back, I swapped out a Leupold 18x with it just to make sure. First group went .209. Eight groups after that, the largest was just over an inch, but most were .6-.8, and there was no right left issues.

I just traded out my pst for the ERS and to me it was a very nice upgrade. I really like the g2 reticle as well.

I've sent back 4-6 pst's for various deficiencies, they are far from perfect. I had a razor that i got used, for 1300, i traded it to a buddy for a new dmr g2. Currently i have 2 6-24 g2 and 2 3.5-21 g2, can't say anything bad about them. Glass is good, reticle is excellent, and all have been tougher then nails. To vortex's customer service, they are very friendly and helpful, i know because i've needed it alot. My razor came from them at a reduced price because i had a pst that went back multiple times. It was actually defective out of the box and after3 tripa back it was still not right. The illumination on the pst and my razor were sketchy at best, they all suffered from blinky illumination during recoil. Op, ask yourself why every vortex vs. other brand thread always has praise for their customer service, simple, alot of pst owners have needed to use it. Hence all the customer service experience. I prefer to buy my goods from a outfit that has a service department like the Maytag repairman, bored because nothing comes back. Sidenote, i've had good results with the 4-16 hs series, had several and they were trouble free.

The Bushnell scopes are built better than the PST, with that said I still really like the PST for the price they are very hard to beat. The Burris XTR are also very nice.

There is also a reason for that. Sent a Viper PST back 4 times... Never had to send a NF OR my ERS or XRS back and they've been through the ringer.
The PST just can't stand up in reality to what it's marketed as. The Razor is a different story

I am usually a Nightforce guy (7 of them) but at the request of my better half to try to reduce the cash out flow and since I don't require a illuminated reticle I tried 1 of the Bushnell Elite FFP G2DMR 3.5-21X50 scopes. I was really impressed. Since then I have adde 2 more to my stable. Is it a Nightforce, no. But a terrific buy for the money. There are a number of the DMR's well as the ERS at very reasonable price on the Optic For Sale board on this site the lase eime I looked.
