Nothing wrong with DPMS BCGs. I think BCM's BCG is a better value, but the DPMS will more than fit the bill for the overwhelming majority of shooters. </div></div>
My personal opinion, for plinking DPMS would be fine but I wouldn't bet my life on them. I've been at classes with LEO's using DPMS guns and have seen a number of functioning issues. This has been in both semi and burst modes; both new and used guns. My brother has a DPMS 308 and it is a nice gun. I'd take it hunting but again, I wouldn't want to bet my life on it.
Debating DPMS guns is like debating Ford vs. Chevy. My suspicion of DPMS is my personal preference, that's all. My upper that is enroute is a BCM upper and I have seen nothing but good reviews on them. Other than that I have Colt and LMT uppers and lowers. </div></div>
I am sure you will be happy with the BCM upper. I read posts like this on DPMS guns/parts all the time and I just have to keep going back and putting them into perspective based on my personal experience. Would I bet my life on a DPMS? -- hell yes, if it was a gun that I had spent a lot of time shooting and have gained confidence with. I wouldn't bet my life on any gun that I didn't have the opportunity to put through its paces. I have fed enough ammo through more DPMS guns in various calibers than I can count on one hand to have absolute confidence in any one of them.
As I said in the original reply, a DPMS BCG will fit the needs of just about every shooter out there. If I was buying a BCG for professional, day-to-day, life-on-the-line work I would prefer the BCM BCG (especially for the price), but that is not what I am buying my guns for and the same is true for the vast majority of us.
For the record, my go-to 5.56 rifle which I built mostly from DPMS parts has a BCM BCG in it.
