I am new to precision shooting, but I have the bug bad. I built a MK12 Mod 0 last winter and I love it. I am, though, looking for my first bolt gun, and particularly looking for a .300 Win Mag. I want to mod it for some high precision shots down the road, but right now I just want to get started.

I want a Remington 700 as there are many after market chassis and parts for it. Thing is, I don't know what to look for in which one to get and in budget.

I don't want to go over $700 for one. I am looking for that has a threaded barrel, and can be threaded.

Thank you in advanced.

You're going to have to up the ante a bit. Rem700 300WM 5r is around $1350 and comes with a Threaded Barrel.

If you are shooting Targets, a 260Rem will perform just as well as a 300WM when hitting paper.

The Rem 700p can be purchased for about $900. You can pay a gunsmith to thread it for you. That would be a good starting point. I agree with the above post regarding a 260 Rem. I love mine. Have you shot a 300 win.? The recoil is not worth any gains over a 260.

+1 or 243 win will shoot inside all of the above and no recoil with a brake plus 10 round mags.

If it were me looking to ease into this beast.... I would find a cheap donor 300wm rem 700 and start buying parts a little at a time. A stock here, barrel there, trigger...... you get the point till I can have a gunsmith put it together for me.... my .02
