I've serched the different forums but can't seem to find an answer to my question. I will be soon recieving some inhertance money. When this happens I try to honor that individual with a new rifle. This time my father has passed he was a WWII vetran. I'd like to buy an AR 10 to compliment my M1A in the semi auto .308 dept. I live in Iowa and can't seen to find a dealer and get conflicting info on what a good sub MOA would be. Looking to the DPMS LR308 or possibly Armalite.
Can't find recent prices or products. I hope I'm not asking the obvious questions on this site I mostly just read and seldom post.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

What's your price range? A DPMS SASS or Armalite can go for $1500 and be reasonably accurate, and then you have GAP-10, LWRC REPR, Larue OBR, etc which is on the $3K+ side.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

I'd like to keep it around $1700 still gonna need a scope fitting for that type of rifle. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

For that price you can get a DPMS, CMMG, or build your own on a Mega Ma-ten receiver set. I built one on a Mega receiver set and am in the process of completing my second build. I got most of my parts from Rainier Arms. Search around and you can find the receiver set for around $500.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

Armalite makes great rifles for the money. The AR10Ts are very accurate, as long as you break them in right. But that goes for anything stainless.

I have a regular A4 with the 20" barrel and it shoots great. I use mainly American Eagle 150g and it holds 10 or 12" groups with irons at 100yd. I have not obtained a good scope yet, so I cant really speak for precision. But its very consistent.

DPMS is good, but usually requires a barrel swap unless you get the extra options they offer. Plus, they have pretty crappy triggers, but thats an easy fix.

IMO, the GAP 10 is kinda overkill. They are tack drivers for sure, but its all in the barrel. They use other people's receivers, now I think they are using POF or Hogan's receivers. I dont know if you can get them to use someone else's, but you can get the same performance from an Armalite or DPMS with a barrel and trigger swap. GAP makes better bolt guns than semi autos. There is only so much you can do to an AR type rifle without making your own receivers.

My vote goes for Armalite, but it all matters what feels best in your hands.

If you wanna honor your father with a rifle, why not get a Garand? That is, if you dont already have one. Or maybe a Browning 1919? Haha.

Anyways, even the standard Armalites come with a pretty good trigger. OR just go with Jake Cutter's idea and build your own. I built my Armalite and love it.

You and your father have my condolences, its sad to see the toughest generation of Americans pass away. But, like all legends, they end at some point.

Lol... There's more to it then just "in the barrel". I would highly suggest reading this before putting a comparison between a DMPS or Armalite against a GAP-10...

I would look at maybe Noveske or an LMT which is within your range if you wait and watch for deals. If you want an off the shelf then the DPMS SASS isn't bad and can be found for $1500.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

Where the hell are you bullsh!ters claiming that you can get a DPMS SASS for $1500?

That's WAY below dealer cost through several places, and still below MASTER DEALER direct from DPMS, so let me know so I can place my order.

Otherwise, don't spit out random prices that you THINK things should be selling for, actually take the couple seconds to look it up first.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

The SASS is a great rifle for the $. l have never seen them for $1,500, but you can find them for about $1,800 shipped. I think DPMS recently went a little cheaper on the BUIS, but the rifle is still a good deal.

I've come across several on Gunbroker.com and a few other websites. It wasn't a random price... Just because you can't find something doesn't mean it can't be found.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

Ok Three options have popped up. Using the above advice I looked at DPMS the look awsome but site was lacking info. My FFL dealer sent me an email with a Rock River LAR 308 bout $1400 his cost. A buddy whos a sniper for the sheriffs department has a build he wants me to look at.

Give me an actual link. I just checked Gunbroker and several other sites, NO DPMS SASS for anywhere near $1500.

You're claiming BELOW MASTER DEALER COST. They're NOT out there for that cheap.

Just because you throw out some BS random price doesn't mean anyone in the country is stupid enough to sell it at a loss.

Read what I said. I've come across them. I didn't say there was one at this exact moment and cite a link. Do I look like your personal deal finder. Frankly... I don't give a shit if you believe me or not.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

Here's my .02 to stir the pot in your $1700 range:

1) ARMALITE AR-10T 20" UPPER will be for @ $799 during the 4th of July Sale plus @ $12 S&H = $811

2) ARMALITE lower receiver from 762SASS $205 S&H ?

3) ARMALITE LPK w/o trigger from 762SASS $65

4) G SSA Trigger from 762SASS $180 (you may find it for less but add in S&H from that vendor and you'll be back up to SASS's price)

5) ARMALITE A2 buttstock kit $90 go with an upgrade later if there actually is an upgrade. My M40A1 only needed my non-trigger hand used as a bag in the '80s and my cheek always found the perfect spot to place my eye exactly where it needed to be behind the Unertl

So, that makes it @ $1300 because of misc. S&H charges...

THAT leaves you with $400 to put toward a new Bartlein from GAP if your factory assembled $799 upper disappoints you in the sub-MOA department. It will almost assuredly be sub-MOA with a popular fodder as FED GM 168-175gr. ARMALITE gives a very generous window of accuracy claims to cover the majority of shooters... that just can't shoot.

I personally have never seen an ARMALITE AR-10A4 (yepper, that means chrome-lined) NOT be able to shoot 3/4" five shot groups at 100yds with fodder that it liked. Hornady 150gr SST and Georgia Arms 165gr Precision Plus have always been favored in every AR-10 that I have come in contact with. That includes those owned by others since I have only gone through about a dozen of the them since 1999 and have three AR-10s as I type this.

As far as GAP goes,
Roman_Moroni.jpg

those fargin' bastage iceholes will get my monies to take my 24" AR-10T and make it a 24" 6mm Creedmoor. da-da-damn, they're always trying to make something better and get my monies.

God Bless them, everyone.

EDIT: As far as AR-10A4s (gone through four of them), this one with an AIMPOINT 5000 1.5MOA dot at 100yds off the tailgate of my truck with an MTM cleaning cradle as a bench:

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

As a dealer I would love to find a DPMS new at $1500, I would buy them all day long. In your price range, my pref is for the Rock River. For the money it is hard to beat. The only prob with Rock River is the wait. On a 308, it usually takes me about 3-4 months to get it. Armalite keeps a lot more in stock and I can order directly from their inventory. I personally prefer RRA over Armalite. As far as DPMS goes, my personal feelings are that if you are not getting their high end rifles, skip them (same as Bushmaster). Seeing a LOT of guns come through the shop, I can defiantly tell the difference and more and more companies are cutting costs and skimping on quality to get their "price point" guns out...

Well thank goodness a Dealer set me straight, lol... They can't get it at that price. Of course if I had actually said "From a dealer" then I would be wrong... but I didn't and as numerous posters have now proven they fail to actually read what I said.

To the OP... Again, despite the fact that every dealer wants to quickly jump on and justify whatever price they sell it at, if you wait and watch various online resources they can be found around $1500. From inventory clear-outs, dealer samples, to even slightly used models. You can maybe even get a slightly used models for much less. There's a used model with less than 300 round through it on Gunbroker right now that's at around $1055 with with a bi-pod, no reserve, and 6 days left on auction. Do yourself a favor and don't believe everything a dealer tells you when it comes to pricing in online forums. Their business relies on sales and they are going to do what it takes to protect their livelihood and sell you something, which they should as good business owners. But as a responsible consumer I'm not going to agree with whatever a dealer says just because they say it is so when I've seen to the contrary.

And now you prove how oblivious and stupid you are.

The OP is looking for a NEW rifle as a commemorative and is looking for a DEALER sale, which is what he posted in the thread title / opening post and what everyone has been talking about this entire time. The fact that this thread is called "Looking for a dealer for an AR 10" makes your dealer bashing a worthless gesture that the OP isn't interested in.

So you actually failed to read the OPs thread. This is his discussion, not yours. And his qualifications eliminate your BS excuse for your off the cuff price guessing.

Lmao... He asked for a dealer and then he gave a price range and I made an alternate suggestion which is my right. The only people trying to discuss dealer prices are you and the other other tard trying to justify your own prices. I wasn't price guessing or BSing and I don't have to prove anything to you arm chair ninjas. It is HIS discussion so where do you get off telling anyone who can or can't be part off it? Piss off...

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

After reading the post I'm throwing out the build my friend has. Sounds good but I'd rather just go new all the way. 3 month wait for a Rock River? That's depressing. I'm looking for a flattop also. The Rock I'm looking at has a weaver type gas check with a front removeble. That's a plus. Should be getting some money in a couple weeks. I really value you all's opinion but are all the best rifles a long wait?? I mean I don't mind paying and waiting a few months but need a reputable dealer. mmmmmH?

Yup... There's a reason for the wait usually. Demand...

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

Well the money got here yesterday so now it's crunch time. Anyone think the Rock River LAR308 will shoot better than 1 MOA that it's adverstised at? My M1A National Match is rated that and shoots a half inch.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

If you have decided on a RR LAR308, I know if a place that has 3 of them in stock as of 2 weeks ago (they still may or may not be there). Where in Iowa are you? PM me and I can go down to see if they are still there if interested.

I ordered one on Dec 29 and it has not come in yet. May come here in another month. My Dealer told me it was a good thing that we ordered before the shot show.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

I'm in Western Iowa just outside Council Bluffs. I have a pal who has a FFL plus I work for Bass Pro in the gun dept. My question is the Rock River gonna be a good longer range rifle. 500 yds all I have to shoot.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

Ok Just got a visit from a friend who's a AR armorer and sniper for the sheriff's department, former Marine . He has a DPMS build. Jewel trigger has a magpul match grade stock with adjustable lenght of pull and comb, 20 inch fluted barrel with 2000 rounds through it(keeps a log)30mm (forgot name but has six screws) 50 cal rated rings said they cost $300, Harris bipod. Ambredexous(sic) charging handle neopreme sling two 20 round and one ten round mag. Green camo paint job. Wants $1500 firm. No scope just rings. Has built a new work rifle with shorter barrel.
I value you all's opinion almost pulled the $1500 from my gun safe but wanted to cool off.
Honest opinions please

IMO the rings are irrelevant since you don't have the glass yet so you don't know what size you need anyways, and it's "50 cal" rating isn't as important who they're made by and your not shooting a 50 lol. I don't see anything there that warrants $1500 especially with 2K rounds down the tube...

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

With 2k Down the tube he will probably be closer to $1200. It's your money but I wouldnt jump on anything. Decide what you really want and then find one. Or else you will end up trying to sell a slightly used rifle after a few weeks and take a hit on it.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

JP may be out there a bit for me. The guy who goes to the range about once a week at best.
A salesman from Scheels Sporting Goods just called me he has another New DPMS stainless barrel I seen it at the Iowa City Iowa store while I was on break from judging the Big Ten gymnastic competition this weekend I liked it and it's under my price range they'd send it to the Omaha store if I wanted that one but once again I'm gonna need to research it.
I think I'm gonna hold on the build. Like kujo929 said 2k down the tube that DID give me pause.

Pulled the pin on a LR308

I went ahead on bought the LR 308 from Panther Arms. Has the stainless bull barrel and standard trigger. The price I got it for I can afford a good trigger and still have juice left for the appropriate scope and rings. Only thing I need to do is get out the gravity feed gun and dura coat the shiney barrel and custom up the forearm and buttstock. That's what I have a spray booth for.
I GREATLY APPRECIATE

Re: Pulled the pin on a LR308

Final note I ordered a JP trigger LR 39 and will install that then do my duracoat later after getting the barrel broke in. Got a Leapers AR scope left over from a close out I'll use for the break in while shopping for something more appropriate. Thanks again.

Re: Pulled the pin on a LR308

Mike post pics after your duracote. I am interested in my own duracote job when i get a paint gun altough it is not a gravity feed gun i hope i can still get teh job done. cant wait to see your finished product.

Good luck.

Kirk

Re: Pulled the pin on a LR308

I picked up a gravity feed jam gun(small about one pint) from Harbor Freight. I comes with its own pressure guage/valve and works just great on dura coat. You need to have some of the dura reducer left to clean the gun. Dura coat also has a aresole kit but it's pricy.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

Not sure what you paid for that Leapers scope, but I would return it and get a solid fixed power 10x from Bushnell (3200 mil/mil 10x), Weaver (Tactical mil/mil) or SWFA SS 10x. You got a nice rifle and putting crap optics on it will not do you any favors, pretty much a waste of money you could put towards something you could use for years with confidence opposed to chasing groups with a weak mount and cheap optic. Just my .02.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

The optics are just there until I get something nice. Probably just enough to get the barrel broken in. The Leaper (accusope) was on a rifle that I repaired the stock on and the owner didn't want it. Just a quicky. Been looking at the Luepold AR series but will look at the Bushnell. I have SWFA 10x one on my M1A Nat Match and the other on a .223 Savage 12 FV they shoot real well. Right now the LR .308 is unfired and getting an OD Green duracoat on the fore end grip and buttstock.

Re: Looking for a dealer for an AR 10

Got it broke in finally. Really needs the trigger I ordered and is on back order. Also needs a scope. What to buy. Looking at one of Luepolds AR scopes
