looking for a fair priced .308

I'll save you some headache and just get this out of the way now: what are you going to use it for and what features are the most important to you? The forum VERY rarely EVER agrees on "the best" of anything; but if you give an idea of whether you value long range accuracy, ruggedness, piston vs DI, patrol vs preciesion, lowest price worth owning, etc you'll get some good feedback. Also check out this thread where the topic has been discussed in this section recently:

I picked up a mp10 for under a grand(LEO discount). It shoots sub moa. With my hand loads its 3/4 moa. Have gotten sub 1/2 moa 3 shot groups with FGMM. Can't beat it for the money.

I know... I know... you don't have to rub-it-in... ;) ! All the accuracy reports I've gotten have been similar. It's great to see S&W step up with a real shooter. At this point I'm expecting mine will easily out-perform me.

DPMS get a lot of bad PR, but they are actually good rifles. Yes, there are better but for the money, they actually shoot as good or better than most shooters.

Really, you can't go wrong with any of your options. Just comes down to how much cash you have left for goodies and ammo on your budget.

I own 2 M&P10's... I sold my DPMS's when I bought the first M&P and took it to the range the first time, there was no comparison in how the two shoot. Hands down out of the box the M&P is a far more accurate rifle. For the money and how well it shots out of the box.. I would not fuss with building a custom job.

If you want to spend $2500 then build a custom job... For $1400.. this is a good deal and much better than the sig for the money.

If weight is of no concern then the dpms LR-308 is a lights out shooter. But, it it pretty heavy to be toting around the woods...

I've had my eyes set on a new ar 10 .308 was thinking a m&p 10 or dpms. What do u guys think is gonna be the best for the price and quality?
Between the 2 I would go with the MP 10. The lower end DPMS have some pretty bad triggers. I have a DPMS SASS and it's great but much to heavy to lug around the block let alone hunt with. However my rifle of choice would be the SIG 716 for all around use. I love mine very accurate but the trigger while crisp, no creep is a tad on the heavy side.

I recently bought the Bushmaster BR308 ORC. With a Centerpoint scope (just laying around) and Magtech ammo I sighted in with 3 rounds. The rest of the 22 rounds I shot were in a hole just at 1.25" I paid $975 new +tax + NICS =~$1079 I would have been grateful for 2MOA at 100yds. This rifle is a keeper. I think Bushmaster is made by DPMS now or vice-versa.
