Gunsmithing Looking for a prethreaded 700 barrel for use w/can

I was thinking of buying a Remington 700 SPS or similar hunting weight/profile rifle in .223 and threading it for a suppressor.

Problem is, Remington only sells their hunting weight rifles in a 1:12 or slower twist. I'm looking to use this rifle for subsonic use and want a twist no slower than 1:9. They make the LTR in 1:9, but I'm not really looking for such a heavy rifle.

I would consider buying the SPS cheap and rebarreling it with a 1:9, 1:8, or even 1:7 hunting profile barrel. I was just curious if anyone sells one that is already threaded for a suppressor?

Does such a beast exist?

Thanks in advance....

Hmmmm, that could be. I should have mentioned, I would want the barrel 20" or cut down to 20" before threading.

I suppose by the time I paid the gunsmith to rebarrel it and do all that, it would be a lot cheaper to just buy an LTR and thread it....

I can get an ER Shaw #1 sporter contour for $120. What is the usual charge for rebarreling?

Yeah, I may have to look elsewhere...like Tikka or CZ.

I was planning to get a Remmy since I have a VIP Pricing Certificate that gives me a better price than dealer...may be cheaper to go with another company and thread it than get a good deal on a Remington and have to do a lot more work and cost.

The CZ 527 Varmint is an excellent rifle. Another downside you have to consider about rebarreling that Remington, is the wait. Most good smith's have 6-12 month wait times. I think you could have that CZ's barrel threaded much faster and be shooting instead of waiting.

I think the SPS Tactical with 1/9 twist, cut back to around 18 inches (16" would even be pretty nice) is not going to be significantly heavier than the slimmer varmint profile barrel. It would definitely save you some money over the LTR or a complete re-barrel. The short barrel will also make it easier to manage with suppressor attached, and will help keep velocities down and make subsonic load development a little easier. The shorter, thicker (i.e. stiffer) barrel should also be a little happier once you hang the the weight of the suppressor off the end of it. I recently cut my 24" .308 down to 18.5" and only lost 110fps from my original load, so I would imagine that the smaller cased .223 would lose minimal velocity if cut down to the 16"-18" range. FWIW
