Looking for advice on bottom metal or dbm?

I have a Remington 700 with a Bell and Carlson tactical medalist stock (non-adjustable), Douglas #7 barrel, SS 10x, I want to replace the junk factory bottom metal. I am hoping to go with something drop in as this rifle has been a budget build. I have been leaning towards just a good steel floorplate because I really don't need the dbm but they are pretty nice. I have seen that Wyatts makes a drop in. I know you are locked into their mags only, but does anyone have any experience with them? Should I just stick with a floorplate?

I've had no problems with Wyatt's. The mags are proprietary and they are not as stout as the M5 system I have, but they are a nice drop in fit that work well.

I think they go well with the B&C stocks. If you decide you want to go Badger later, you can send the stock to be inletted and buy the other system...then sell the Wyatt at a small loss.

The Wyatt system does the job for me though...but I'm not in combat or rough terrain regularly.

No, I haven't. Though I'm not rough on my stuff really like some in the field. Mine are hunting and bench use mostly.

Yeah I'm not rough on my stuff either. Ijust hunt and target shoot as well but I would like to get into some kind of long range tactical competition eventually. maybe I will have time someday when my kids are grown.

I decided to put DBM on my 700 heavy barrel with a HS Precision stock. All I will say is Brownells idea of "drop in" part and my idea of "drop in" are on two totally different things... It was a lot of work to get it in but it was well worth the time. Best advice I can give is to take your time!!!

You would be far better off purchasing a PTG stealth bottom metal and having it fitted to the rifle. Most smiths will do this for $100.00 or less. My shooting partner had one done for $75.00. Wyatt is drop in, but mags are proprietary, and the whole kit is crazy expensive. The PTG DBM runs AICS mags and the whole kit can be had for the same if not less than the Wyatt.

Count, where do you recommend buying the PTG kits? My limited experience has me only finding kits that are more expensive.

This is what you want. It doesn't come with a magazine. Those can be purchased other places. $75 for the DBM is a great deal, $75 for the install, and the purchase a few 10 round magazines. All total you are looking at $300 for good kit, and the best magazines available. If you need recommendations for install let me know. Most smiths can install it.

Badger will inlet for $75. They inlet for their DBM, but it's the same as the M5 Stealth from PTG.

BAD-DBM Remington M700SA Bottom Metal

I had this one by B.A.D. Installed in my HS stock and really like it and it takes the AICS mags. I liked the mag release built into the trigger guard.

PTG, Badger, Surgeon are all far better than the Wyatt's. The problem isn't the bottom metal itself its the magazines. AICS Magazines are a far better product. I have never had a problem with an AI brand magazine. The Wyatt's mags are single stack, single feed. The AI mags come in two flavors double stack, single feed, and the AW Single stack, double feed (this DS/DF version requires modification of the Rem 700 feed ramp to feed properly).

I've a .308 w/a HS/P and a 300wm w/a Wyatts. Both work perfect,an run both in run an guns, never been a problem with either. I did spend the time to make sure both were installed correctly. Both are drop in but you can shim the fit somewhat. The Wyatts is a single stack but feeds 10X easier than the HS/P staggered.

I have put CDI stuff on two rifles. I found them to be outstanding. The each rifle has a five round and a 10 round AI magazine. The fit is solid and the mag release positive with little "slop" when inserted and locked into rifle.
Single round loading is perfect. Keep the pointy end forward and toss it in action. 100% This surprised me the most actually.

This. 2nd to last round in the mag would never feed properly for me. I had to modify the mag spring to get it to feed properly.
