My grandpa recently passed away at the age of 93 and left me a Marlin 336 chambered in a 35 Remington. He used this same rifle for years hunting whitetail in south GA-rifle is probably 50
years old. I have been hunting this same lease for the past 5 years lugging around an AR-10 in 308 which has proved quite heavy and cumbersome considering most shots come up quick and are within 40 yards. After doing some research on the caliber, many say it’s an awesome round for woods hunting deer. I can say that all hunting is done from tree stands and heavy wooded area in South GA. I’m not to sure about the condition of the rifle or the scope, I’m suppose to get the rifle in the next week or two. I know the caliber doesn’t have the best ballistics in long range, but most shots are under 75 yards.

Im just looking for expierience or opinions on the 35 Remington round for whitetail hunting. Thx guys

That caliber is a 30-30 on steroids. You will have a fine rifle for wooded hunts and close range; even better if you handload some of the newer bullets for it. Enjoy!

My uncle loved 35 rem. He shot a lot of deer with that or an old single shot 12 ga with slugs. Both rode in the truck during deer season. He worked as a tree cutter for years and shot most of them while "working". I even remember him shooting a decent buck over 150 yards. Seems like a step above 30-30 to me and people have been killing stuff forever with them.

I inherited the same rifle 5 years ago. My great grandfather used it to take at least one deer for 56 consecutive years. He died at 94 two weeks after deer season, ending the streak. I shot an elk with it last year at 50 yards DRT. Enjoy it!

It will do the job IF your shot placement is correct. I go shot with one while driving my 1970 Camaro, thru the car door, steel panel, and in the side, never hit a bone and stopped against my spine, just missed the heart, that was 42 yrs ago guess I have a magnetic personality and a horse shoe stuck some place to be alive. but I do know how a deer feels now. LOL
