Looking for opinions on Kelby Atlas Tactical or Curtis Axiom actions I am looking to build my first chassis BA, I am just trying to come up with a material list, and looking for help from more experienced people. I am open to other actions.

I have two Kelbly tactical atlas, a Curtis Vector, and a Curtis Axiom. All are fantastic!

Kelbly is Rock solid, time tested, and smooth, especially after 500-800 rounds. The folks at Kelbly are great, had them send me firing pin assembly and spare parts for my match box. They went overboard in doing so, really hooked me up.

Curtis Axiom, smooth, love the 60* bolt throw, which Vector has also. If you got big meat hooks, bump scope often, this would be a great feature. Three lugs on Curtis bolt lift feels lighter than my Kelblys, but just slightly so.

Plus on the Kelblys is the trigger hanger, makes quick work out of swapping triggers if one goes down in a match. Honestly, all these actions are slicker than a hand rail in a whorehouse. I don't plan on parting with any of them. Would be great to put your hands on some and compare.

I don't own a Curtis but have one of the Atlas Tac actions and so far really like it.
Several threads to read through on the Kelbly action.
The best advice has allready been given, pick the options you like best and choose one.

Oh you actually got one?

He seems to be struggling in actually delivering them but yet he will sure take your money for one. Then he’ll say “it will ship on Monday” for about 6 months.

I gotcha, that sucks.

I didn't order one from them. I bought a full rifle from Masterpiece Arms. They use the curtis axiom on there rifles.

I have the Kelbly Atlas Tac and couldn’t be happier. Anytime I’ve emailed Kelbly they’ve responded within a couple hours. I can’t speak for the Curtis (I’m sure they’re a great company) but I’ve definitely not felt any buyers remorse on the Kelbly...

This has been my experience with Kelblys as well, prompt and courteous responses to any and all questions I have had. They were more than helpful with the questions I had about freebore and chambering when I sent them the barrel I bought and the bullet choices I planned on running with. Another plus worth noting is Ian is on the forum and if you have direct questions I have seen him chime in on these types of threads when needed.
Phil with MPA also showed the same level of dedication and support when I had questions and deserves recognition for his efforts.

+1 on Phil Cashin of MPA, classy guy. I have built a few custom rigs on MPA chassis this year and Phil has helped me out with numerous things. He is also a high level PRS competitor so he is in tune with shooters needs, wants, etc. Same can be said for Chase Curtis and Ian Kelbly. All these guys shoot and know their stuff. My dealings with all three have been top shelf.

Pretty much any of the custom actions will satisfy the masses that have never owned one it just comes down to preference and options. Some like 60° bolt throw but most are very accustomed to a 90° like myself and see no reason to change.
They will all serve you well just choose what you really want or need and enjoy.
I am finally at home and have been in the garage tinkering all afternoon and just about have the inlet on my stock ready for bedding tomorrow.
These are good times we are living in so don't stress yourself out with unnecessary research, pick one and run with it. ?

Hey folks question about the Curtis Axiom. Does anyone know if the pic rail is both screwed and pinned to the receiver? I ask beacuse the Vector has the rail and lug fully integrated but the Axiom obviously does not. Was just thinking of the possibility that the rail could come loose over time with heat and recoil. And naturally, if that's going to happen, it will happen in a match. Thanks!!!

i'd say the majority of actions have screwed/pinned rails. don't worry about it

An added bonus of having a removable rail is if you ever want to change the forward cant you have that option.
On the majority of calibers most on here shoot and recommend 6mm variants and the 65 Creedmoor receiver stiffness isn't really an issue especially with the custom actions.
If I decide later on to convert my Atlas to a lighter weight hunting rifle I can just add a 0 MOA aluminum or titanium rail for some minor weight savings and I prefer that versatility.

The axiom is both pinned and screwed. It will not move.

I said the same thing about a 60 deg throw before I shot with one.

Now when I go back to a regular one it feels like I'm throwing a battleship. I only have a 60 deg throw on my comp gun. Every other rifle I own is a 90, but I wouldn't build one any other way now.

If I go on a fishing trip and take my 3wt or 5wt fly rod, and then go on a different trip and take my 7wt if feels the same way.
