Rifle Scopes Looking for some info on a Shepherd scope

I have a scope that I got a while back with the intentions of installing it on one of my rifles - it is a Shepherd 3X-9X 40 200M. It appears to have 2 reticles in it a 3 wire with a horizontal and vertical scale on it as well as what looks like a vertical MIL-dot "hold over" reticle.

They are independently adjustable.

The objective has settings for 30 to infinity (with 300 being the next to last mark).

I am trying to find a manual or operating instructions for this thing and cannot. I think I understand everything except a single "adjuster knob" on the front of the adjustment tower.

Anyone have any info on this guy?

Thanks! Managed to find some info on the company, seems you cannot Google Shepherd 3X9, I guess the scope is so old that it does not come up - they now make a 3X10...

The bottom vertical reticle with the circles is moved by the larger turret knobs, take your first shot then keep the top crosshairs on the target Bullseye and move the top circle over top of your bullet hole.
Then use the smaller turret caps and move the top crosshairs to the center of the top circle. Then your sighted in, It's really easy after you figure it out.

Neat, a scope that anticipates it will break but will provide a clear indication when it does.
The company history also states that the FFP reticle property of subtending correctly regardless of magnification that I (and many in the tactical shooting community) prefer is a drawback.

Thanks! been trying to figure out how to sight this puppy in. Up to now would have been wrong! Since I have no idea where this thing has been, I went and put it as close to the center on all adjustments and will see how it does. My Bushnell bore sight is useless with the setup on the rifle it is on so I guess I will have to find a 308 laser bore sight to see what is what. I am afraid that it may be sitting to high and I may lose some of my up/down adjustment range. Going on a autoloader so trying to sight through the barrel is not working so great.

Do you have any idea what the adjustment knob that sits on the front of the sight adjustment tower (facing forward on the rifle) is?

This is an older thread but I may still be able confuse you further, lol. Back in the day, 25 years ago, when I was using Shepherds, they had a 3-9x40 called the All-Arounder. If I recall correctly, one of the knobs on the scope would switch the reticle pattern to either the P1, P2, or P3. The sight-in procedure was the same as the 310 Series. I had two 310's, one in P2 and one in P3. For my 308's using 190 SMK's, the P2 was the winner for sure. The P3 needed some turret clicks past 800 as I recall. The beauty of the All-Arounder was that you had in one scope a reticle/drop system for any cartridge, so you could use it on anything.

I grew to really love my Shepherds. The stadia circles are for 18". I made up 18" diameter targets, put them out to 1000 in measured 100 yard increments and tested the P2 reticle drops at known distances. As I recall, one could absolutely rely on kill shots at those known distances using the circles as intended as long as one always aimed center of the chest, and at some if not most distances, the bullet would strike in the center of the circle. I had a range card for exact dope for each distance, but rarely used it. After awhile you know how to hold for each distance. For a layman these scopes were pretty awesome, and quick, no math or head work required.

With your scope in your hand, I'd recommend you call Shepherd and talk to them about it.

Oh, another thing, you can sight Shepherds in with one shot, but plan on about 3, lol. If you're concerned about being on paper with your first shot you can do this at 25 or 50 yards, then repeat at 100.
