I have high end and low end calls on my lanyard. I have found that most calls sound good or they wouldn't be on the market. Check your local DU Chapter and find out if there is a local guy who makes calls. Being local and custom, maybe laserd to say something loving from a son, will add to the "value" of the call. I have an old cheap lohman wood call my dog (who has passed) chewed ever so slightly and it is priceless to me.
FWIW- single reed competition calls don't belong in the blind, low gravely double reeds are sweet in a fog covered swamp!
