I have one AR in 5.56 a really sweet Colt with binary trigger, quad rail, etc. Love it. I also have a PSA lower an am wondering about alternatives to the 5.56 platform. I see lots of options, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, 7.62z39, and some others. So what do you gain or lose with each one. One consideration is ammo cost and availability. 223/5,56 is so available and cheap it remains att

7.62x39 is a blast to shoot and cheapo steel case ammo is easy to find and affordable, or at least it seemed that way before the world lost its mind. 9mm dedicated guns are fun too.

I just build a 5.56 SBR, but I’m currently thinking about getting a CMMG banshee 9mm upper. While I do already have a Scorpion EVO, the appeal is there ... esp with their ARC mags.

As you know, 9mm is stupid cheap plus you get the bonus of shooting in a pistol caliber only range, but running your AR.

.300 BLK would be pretty fun for an SBR / Pistol or 6.5 Grendel for something like a 20" barrel. I would avoid 9mm unless you have a dedicated 9mm lower. The magwell blocks to adapt to pistol mags can be troublesome. And 7.62x39 can be have its own problems unless you're going with a dedicated lower like a PSA KS-47 which is designed to use standard AK "rock and lock" mags.

Depends on what you're really using it for. Will you be reloading for it?

Imo, 223/5.56 is a more general purpose rifle. Small, Lightweight, reasonably accurate to mid range, affordable to feed.

Going with a larger frame .308 or 65cm you get more power and distance but it gets larger and heavier and cost more to shoot.

7.62x39 is heavier bullet and has affordable ammo with close to mid range accuracy.

300BO is about the same as above but more expensive to shoot. All you need is the upper to attach to your current rifle. Uses the same BCG and mags.

9mm or 45ACP are fun you can get a smaller more compact AR and ammo is fairly inexpensive. Close range only.

With that said, looks like you need 3 new rifles.
