Rifle Scopes Looking for suggestions on Rimfire scope

First, I know nothing about 22s or the scopes that are mounted to them. About the only thing I know is that the parallax needs to go down to a minimum 25 yards. I just picked up a Ruger precision rimfire because I have an RPR in 6.5CM and I need a scope.

I'm looking for something budget oriented. I dont care about 1st or 2nd focal plane but strongly prefer something MRAD based. Eventually I'd like to try out the 22 tacticool competitions that mimic PRS. Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

Im looking at the Athlon scopes they seem to focus from 10 yards to infinity.

I also would be interested to see what people are using. For the time being I moved one of my PST gen II's over to my Kidd 10/22 as I was getting tired of the POS that was on it.

Depends on your budget. Good optics that parralax to 25 or less typically are not extremely cheap.

I pulled a bushnell elite tactical off another rifle and put it on my KIDD 22. 6-24x50. Parallax adjusts to 25 yards. The turrets are a bit tall and are only 5 mil per rev. The reticle is illuminated, but a simple mil dot. No zero stop. All in all, most prs shooters would turn their noses up at it. But, it didn’t cost me anything and the Nightforce unimount it’s mounted in made swapping it a breeze. The scope was ~$800 and the mount was ~$250. 6x is low enough mag for target aquisition at close range. 24x is enough mag for the long shots at our local match.

I've seen far too many issues with tracking when it comes to cheap Athlons and Vortex's. If I were you I'd grab a LRHS 4.5-18 on the GAP deal for $750. You can't touch that kind of quality for that price for less than 1k.

Athlon Midas TAC, Argos BTRs or the Nikon BLACK X1000 all come in mils, track well and won't break the bank. Parralax down to 25 I believe ( Nikon might be 50 though)

Sightron SIII 10-50x60 you can get it with mil turrets. Parallax down to 13 Yards although the one I have is more like 10 Yards.

Tracks well but it is a huge scope but nice when you are shooting small objects like matchsticks and toothpicks. It’s also nice to crank it up and see those tiny 22 holes at 100 Yards.

In the $590-$850 price range, I doubt you'll find scopes better suited for PR 22RF use than the Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x50 or Ares BTR 4.5-27x50. The Midas parallax goes down to 10yds, the Ares down to 25yds. Both have real zero stops, with 10 mil per revolution turrets. Ares is illuminated, Midas is not. Their reticles have .2 mil hash marks, and the Ares has a Christmas tree, while the Midas doesn't. I've been shooting with three of the Ares scopes on my own custom rifles, and have been well satisfied with all three of them. I'm a small time dealer for Athlon, and believe the Midas TAC will be a good deal for precision 22RF rifles - will be ordering several of the 6-24x50 models to take to some of the 22RF PR matches I shoot in.

I sold my Cronus BTR and will be buying at least one more Ares 4.5-27x50, probably another in a few months, it's the scope that has the features and reticle I want, and it's a great deal at it's price. Man I wish it focused down to 10Y, I'd be selling a bunch of scopes if it did!

Flatland, would you please check your 6-24 Midas TAC to see if it indeed focuses to 10Y. I know my TAC 4-16 does but I thought the 6-24 went down to 25Y???

It all depends on how much you are willing to spend.
The Falcon Menace M18+ gets good reviews. It has a listed min focus distance of 10 meters.
The B20 reticle is a very nice reticle, can be had FFP or SFP.
Sightron offers many scopes that focus down to 10 yards, they have a specialty field target model with focus from 10-300 yards
The S-Tac 2.5-17.5 is a damn nice scope (SFP)

The worst scope I ever bought was a Falcon 10-50x60 FT scope. Wobbly turrets' that didn't line up, poor glass, controls with hard action and some with light action. I called SWFA and they would only give me store credit for a screwed up scope.

I suggested a Falcon 4-14 to a new acquaintance years ago, it tracked very poorly and the reticle was way too thick. He hated me for recommending it, lol, and never called back.

2 for 2, so I don't go there anymore. Maybe they've improved quality but I'll never take the chance again.

I have an older 4-14, it always tracked. Turrets lined up just fine, after cleaning the heavy grease out of the turrets, the clicks were pretty nice.
After using it extensively on a couple of .308's with no problems, I put it on a braked rifle, it didn't take kindly to that.
A .22 rimfire should be no issue, and they have revamped their warranty.

I had a falcon menace 4-14, hated it. It had parallax problems regardless of the adjustment. Replaced it with a NF SHV 4-14F1, which was perfect for tactical style competition at around a thousand bucks.

It is nice to have a 6-24 for paper punching though.

I am supper happy for NRL22 matches using the Vortex GenII FFP PST 6-24. It is low power enough with a good FOV to find and shoot the close stuff and on the paper points stages zooming in enough to see the bullet holes. I just hold in the matches ant the reticle works well for my head. 25yrd parallax.

Appreciate the replies. I'm wanting to stick to a few hundred bucks at least for the time being. My usually MO is to upgrade down the road if I end up shooting the rifle. I kind of bought the thing because I thought it might be fun. Plus I just upgraded my RPRs scope from a Burris XTR II 5-25 to a Razor 4.5-27 so the gun budget is kind of lacking right now.

Steve - I haven't ordered any of the Midas TAC scopes yet. Will be getting a couple of them soon to take along to some PR 22RF matches - several of the guys shooting with us are still looking for an upgrade from some pretty plain-jane basic scopes, and since the Ares 4.5-27x50s are a bit rich for their blood, I'm thinking the Midas TAC will have some real appeal to them. Athlon's website specifies the 10yd minimum focus distance for the 6-24, that's where I got my info. There's a wide range of scopes being used at these matches - including a S&B Super Short 3-20, Vortex AMG, couple of Cronus, at least one Ares 4.-27x50, one Vortex Gen II 6-24x50 PST...and those are the ones I've seen on rifles in our relay.

I use the 3-15 SS side focus on 4 different 22 rifles. I dial a lot for matches, 8+ mils and they have been consistent and accurate.

Next rimfire scope I am probably getting is the Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x as I have also been happy with my Athlon Cronos BTR 4-27x.

i have a Volquartsen Summit and a Ultra-lite coming so I'm in the market for a cheap, light scope. Consider the new Vortex Diamondback. MRAD, 6-24x, FFP, EBR-2C reticle, and down to 10yd paralax.... and the price is dope with the warranty. As long as it tracks... I think I've found scopes for my rimfires.
