looking for that scope.

I'm looking for some quality glass, I have a Remington 700 SS milspec 5r 308 with a 24" barrel and a Bell & Carlson A2 tactical stock, with a few other extras. I plan on long range target shooting and the occasional hunt. Distance ranging from 100 to 800 meters. I have 20 moa egw base and around $700 to play with. I have been eyeing the millett 6x25x56mm, I'm looking for a variable scope, the highest quality glass and build for the money, clear, and durable enough to take a punch of a 308 for awhile. What is the nicest scope I can get under these circumstances?

Many people believe the VX-3 to be better than the MK4, The ones I have seen have better glass.

One really really really good reason to go with Leupold is their warranty. Ask around, No One I mean No One can beat Leupold's service when it comes to a busted scope, ask around. I personally know of a large collection of high $$$$ rifles and optics that spent Months under water during Katrina, Leupold was the only company that was not a hassle to deal with, did not want hundreds of dollars to repair or replace their product, did not refuse to work on their own product and in fact out of 4 Leupold optics that sub-marined diring that natural/political disaster, only one of the Leupolds had damage. Said damage was the windage adjustment turret developed a slight "tick". Leupold replaced the scope with: Newer version with better glass, a more expensive model, higher magnification and larger objective at NO COST I repeat, NO COST whatsoever.

The completely independent write up for this was a buddy of mine and Leupold was so impressed, they made a display of his write up and his pictures that was the #1 attraction to the shot show a few years back.

In short, go with Leupold, which model and options are up to you, but you just flat ain't goin' to beat their service.

Re: looking for that scope.

FYI got the second scope on that list for a buddy of mine, same rifle, etc. He is blind as a bat without glasses and loves that scope.

(go out and eyeball the scopes at every deal you can FYI)

If yo have a FFL or a C&R you can get a good discount. Check the sample list, etc.

For myself, I would rather have a 30mm tube and a 40-45mm objective than a 55 the huge objectives not only weigh more, they also jack the scope off of the receiver more and you end up using tall cheek pads and akjustable butt pads to compensate......
