Been a long time hunter. Just recently becoming more interested in precision shooting (hence my new membership here) and tuning my hunting rifle for longer range shots. After I get finished with my hunting rifle and get set up with reloading equipment I'm going to start looking into buying or building a rifle for PRS matches.
In the mean time I need to upgrade my rangefinder and have some sort of ballistics solver.
I was originally planning on getting the Leica 2700 and use the Applied Ballistics app for more precision on longer range shots and to get me started in PRS until I can get a Kestrel. I feel having the ballistics built into the range finder would be beneficial for getting of quick shots while hunting when time can be of essence, and the AB app would give me the precision for PRS matches. It would also give me ambient temp and DA readings for the AB app. I'm worried about temperature drift though, not sure if it's an issue on this LRF as with others with built in temperature sensors.
My buddy suggested down grading the range finder and getting both LRF and Kestrel right away. I can get a Kestrel Sportsman and the Leica 2400 for only a little more money, than just the Leica 2700.
I like the idea of having built in ballistics solver in the range finder, with custom ballistic curve (Wouldn't even consider one with generic preloaded curves). Once I become proficient with a LRF and Kestrel combo would having a ballistic solving LRF be much of a time savings?
Mainly looking to collect onions here and get feedback from others.
