If you are unwise enough not to have a level of ammo in your storage that would serve you well, as per your comfort level, shame on you. My comfort level is: I maintain 10K of every caliber I shoot, and maintain that level by replenishing after every session.

I have been thinking of getting another prefit/barrel nut barrel in 300WM for my Tikka 7mmMag for the standardized gig. As well as a 308 barrel for by RPR which currently wears a 6.5 creedmoor.
That way I'd be able to standardize my rifffles to 5.56/308/300WM should things get especially sour.

They have noted a slight slow down in shipping due to an increase in orders. Their customer service is till top notch and their prices are great, shipping is usually fast as long as there is no sudden surge in orders (but even then they still do a good job)

However I think the .338LM or similar fills a very important role that the .50 cannot easily do.
Mainly a sub 20 pound rifle that you could actually walk around with and carry with relative ease that is capable of overmatching most other common rifles and putting significant penetrating energy on distant targets. As well as being able to be fired in a hurry standing / kneeling.
Solid rounds from it will do a good job on a lot of stuff.
The .50 BMG is more of an area defense weapon or good for a planned ambush, or vehicle carry.
Perhaps if you are a much bigger man than me, it would be easy to carry, but on my end, I find a 40+ pound rifle not easy to carry around.
I've had several .50 rifles over the years and eventually decided the only one worth having was a Semi-Auto one (unless you go belt fed).
I had a Barrett M82 semi but sold it a while ago. Been thinking of getting another 50 but am having trouble justifying. It really has little purpose other than anti-material...I like the idea of a bolt action versus another semi...what do you recommend?

If you want a bolt .50 there are lots of options depending on your specific needs:
If you want something that's great at the range, it's hard to find a better value than the Armalite AR-50, it has very good accuracy and the massive brake makes shooting it super easy (that being said the blast will give the entire world a concussion). They are also rather cheap all things being equal.
You can get the bullpup DTA to be short, or go high end to AI or Cadex Defense. There are also several Barrett options. Then you get into custom builds and such.
But in my opinion the .50 BMG really has the most relevance in anti-material work against vehicles or buildings etc., as well as defending an area from vehicle based attacks, area denial etc. Considering that any decent .50 BMG setup is going to pretty much be a boat anchor at 40+ pounds the semi auto made the most sense especially if your material targets may be moving or you have to engage several, or you are wanting to perforate a building etc.
For ELR shooting, it will work, but there are a lot of other options that do the ELR game a lot easier (Yes the .50 will do amazing IF you have a special barrel, special bullets and all setup for ELR accuracy, NOT the milspec ammo or bullets).
I had one of those as well and sold it. Just not a lot of practical use...most ranges wont allow them. I did have some fun with some APIT's at my buddy's farm. Set the damn woods on fire.
AI makes some damn nice, highly priced, bolts actions 50's...but you know that.
@W54/XM-388 I totally agree with respect to anti-material. The Barrett is pretty great in that role. I didn't really see the need for it when I owned it. I wouldn't buy another one either.
My issue is that I am a southpaw and I will have to shoot a RH bolt which isn't my favorite. I love the new AI...it is slick...

But....for non-reloaders...like me...I have a level of personal income that allows me to buy all tto she ammo I need, want and can use. I have a metric poop ton of all the ammo I need for every caliber I shoot. I can afford NOT to reload. I don't have to waste my time reloading.
So, with all due respect, I'd ask you to consider taking all your obnoxious "I reload" comments and putting them, gently, with extra lube, right up into that place where the star in our solar system does not shine.

Many of us think none re-loaders are good for many, many reasons, wish everyone would go that route.
I actually fired this at a knob creek shoot....It is hilarious at over 100 lbs and taller than most.
It is unfortunately classified as a DD under NFA rules so it is not allowed where I live

We don't reload to save money or build arsenals. We reload for perfection and consistency. Perfection and consistency that allows 1000+ yard shots to be hit 1. with the first round and 2. again and again reliably.
ALL my 5.56 and pistol ammo is purchased. No need for that kind of reliability at 10-100 yards unless you're into some sort of 'precision' shooting like bench rest, etc.
Also, having the ABILITY to reload once commercial supplies dry up, in an EOW scenario, reloaders will be valued as much as doctors and machinists. It's a skill that requires investment of time and money.

I started reloading 222 remington for the savings in the 50's. Was taught how to reload 22lr by my grandfather who had to learn how to during the depression. Started into the lR rabbit chase in the mid 70's but now could care less about any of the aforementioned. Now it's all about target specific, an where to hold vs everyday ROP ammo. You can't buy hit targets or somethings, no matter who you are or how much money you have. Knowledge an ability will always trump inked, politically backed paper, an visions of Rainbows with unicorns dancing in the moon light,...

I, too, can afford to simply buy the ammo I want. I reload a lot because I want to. For different reasons. First, I do enjoy it.
Now for 9mm... I buy. For 10mm I reload. For tailored performance and selected projectile reasons. Most factory 10mm is weak. And for Buffalo Bore or Underwood costs, I can reload for 1/2 cost.
Rifle, I reload for the most part. I have not found factory ammo that shoots as well as I reload. For 5.56, I do both. Mostly buy, but reload some others because I want to. .308 I buy because I don't precision shoot .308.
All I am saying is don't be so quick to cast that blanket of righteous indignation at folks doing what they can with what they got. In their own preferred way, they are getting "ammo'd up" and I think we can all agree that is a good thing.
