Rest In Peace
Tim Page
We lost combat photographer Tim Page on 24 August. This amazing Australian made his bones in Vietnam covering close combat. Born in the UK he actually worked for the US Agency for International Development in Laos before taking up the camera. Often considered the inspiration for Dennis Hopper’s photojournalist in “Apocalypse Now” he was described by another author as the most "extravagant" of the "wigged-out crazies running around Vietnam", due in most respects to the amount of drugs that he enjoyed taking. He was wounded in action an amazing four times. The last of which happened incidentally to him jumping from a helicopter to help load wounded soldiers in April 1969. Over the years he published his collected works in several volumes.
One of my favorite anecdotes is his arrest in New Haven in 1967 while covering the infamous concert by “The Doors” which resulted in both the arrest of singer Jim Morrison and Page.
Page died from liver cancer at his home in New South Wales, on 24 August 2022, at the age of 78.
Oh where are the men like him in this age?
God bless and keep him. May He Rest In Peace.
