I’m thinking of buying a Savage 12fv 6.5 cm for$350 on sale and turning it into a 22 creedmoor. I have one already but it shoots too good and I’m thinking of competing in some local 600 yard with it. I mainly just go plinking with a bunch of buddies and none of us are going to be famous but just having the caliber will be like show and tell. I’ve never owned or shot anything that wasn’t factory. I really don’t like the accutrigger or the nasty feeling of the action but im just plinking and I can’t deny the accuracy of the 3 that I’ve owned. I’m hoping to get some advice going this route or if there’s a better route I’m all ears.

I think that’s a good idea. I would try a xcaliber barrel. If your going to shoot 75 grain bullets or heavier it makes sense to me.

I just checked out they’re site, 395$ by the looks. Definitely need to call since I don’t have a clue on what rifling, crown etc. Another question, what would you do for a cheap but looks good stock. I can shoot extremely good with the one it comes with off a bench but it’s so so ugly. I used a razor knife to cut it away where it was visibly touching the barrel and it feels like it was built for a little kid.At least that’s the case of the one I recently purchased . I really like the looks/price of the Boyd’s stock but I’m worried about it needing bedding. Since I’m starting from scratch is there a better choice that eliminates bedding as an accuracy problem or should I just leave the factory on and go for something decent looking after I get it dialed in?

Just target shooting, yes I do handload, do they make 22 creedmoor ammo? I’ve just seen the brass. What stock would you buy if you had to pay a gunsmith if bedding was required?

Boyd's stock laminate and criterion savage barrel from Northwest Shooters supply.

Throw in a couple extra benji's and get a shilen trigger. Easy day.

That’s what I was wondering, I’ve read it’s hit or miss wether a Boyd stock will need bedding and I’m not sure what that would run. I’m starting to wonder if I should just buy a 300 prc Christensen Mesa long range or the bergara equal. By the time I add up the savage build with the action and trigger I hate it’s got me thinking. A 22 creedmoor sure sounds fun but it might be available off the shelf in a few years. 3rd world problems for sure

Otherwise grab a ruger precision rifle in 6 Creedmoor. Then sell the barrel and rebarrel to 22 Creed. Or shoot the 6mm barrel out and save the brass. When you rebarrel the 6 creed brass will work in the 22 Creedmoor.
