I've got two stripped lowers (Stag) that I bought several years ago. They've been sitting in my safe and it's probably a good time to assemble them.


I haven't built any AR's in a long time. Years ago there was practically no difference in any of the lower parts kits out there. Are there any new LPKs that are recommended these days?

Do you plan on a stock trigger or are you going with something else? That is the best thing about LPKs now s that most come without a trigger so you can add in whatever one you want. I like the Aero kits without a trigger. They work well and you get what you want:

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look there.

I'd probably just opt for the stock trigger right now to save some $ on 2 kits just to get the lowers up and running.

Back in the day, the Armalite NM triggers were a great low-cost upgrade for about $30 but don't know if they're still around.

You'll be doing yourself a huge favor if you use a RA-140 trigger.(Rise Armament) You can pick them up for about $100 and it is a huge upgrade. There are better triggers but not many in this price range.

I like CMMG lower parts kit/ no trigger and Geissele SSA-E triggers. The triggers you can usually find on sale, just wait for the next holiday.

You can “build your own” LPK choosing your own parts, without upgrading later, including many trigger choices.

Have done business with them and they were good to deal with.

The WMD NiB triggers are nice.

Larue is still running their black friday/ holiday sale on the MBT trigger. $80

Another hidden gem is a JMT Saber adjustable drop in. you can find them for under $100. I adjusted it so light it will burst fire.

I like the Aero and geissele enhanced lower parts kits. Just try to avoid kits that are known to have MIM (metal injection molding) parts in them. I always heard people talk about that, but never really thought twice of it until one time I racked one of my ar's and the jolt of my bolt going forward broke my bolt catch lever off. Since then I have been pretty picky with my lpk's.

I just received an Aero Precision M4E1 "Builders Set". I also was wondering which lower parts kit I was going to use. I already have the trigger figured out, so no need for a fire control assembly. Anywho, what I am getting at is that Aero Precision makes an LPK also. I'm thinking that it should fit nicely as it's made by the same company that makes my lower/upper/rail.

Wilson Combat has made-in-the-USA lower parts kit to which I usually add the Geissele SSA 2 stage trigger. I last installed them into a 9.5 " .300 BO KAC SR15/30 build.

Yup. Been listening to Mike (the owner of SOLGW) on P&S. He sweats the small stuff and has a hard on for keeping things exactly mil spec. If you want a LPK that has the proper metal, proper treatments and proper coatings...go SOLGW. FCD if you want the same attention to detail but an improved/modern take on the LPK. Mike is Jim Hodges friend and it seems that that attention to detail rubbed off on him.
