Rifle Scopes Lower Tear Optic Questions...?

Hello,

I've been doing quite a bit of research on a few different scopes in various price ranges to complete my AR build.

The goal is to have single purpose; precision AR, sub MOA.

A few components of the build for reference: GA SDE trigger, PRS Stock, Krieger 20 SS BBL, SJC SS titan.

Right now I am missing a scope and bipod (i know where im going with this, just dont have it).

I understand "you get what you pay for" etc... I am looking for a temp scope until I purchase a top tear scope. So i really am looking to spend as little as possible. Hope this makes sense, said scope may see less than 1K rounds before it is retired...

I am looking for a few first hand experiences as I am looking at the Vortex Crossfire, Nikon and a few other Sub $200 scopes.

I also looked at the SS 10X which is in the $300 range. While I understand the smart choice is to go with the SS. It too will only be a stop gap, so why not go with a $99...?

What I am looking for is just something that will hold Zero while I put the rifle through it's early paces. I may not turn the magnification up higher than 10 so "fuzzy" issues in the higher magnification ranges is a non issue for me.

Looking forward to a few first hand reviews and hope everything above makes sense.

With a SS you will a get a good scope that tracks well, has a good warranty, and when the time comes to sell it you will get a lot of your money back.

You will still have value with the SS and could sell it for a decent price or maybe keep it and use as a trainer for another project. That's just my opinion.
Much cheaper than that and you might run the chance of getting something that won't hold zero or track correctly during your 1k rounds.

For a lower <span style="font-style: italic">tier</span> scope option, you can't go wrong with SWFA. You can go wrong with many others. They're tough and track well. I have one on a work rifle (.50 cal), and it has held up very well.

Plange recommending it too... I think I would listen.

It's a little more than than some of the other options, but I have a M-223 Nikon 4X14 on my AR with the BDC600 reticle and am pleased so far.

Scope tracks well and holds zero. I got mine for under $400 at a gun show.

if you're building a precision AR, put irons on it and shoot your irons until you can get the scope you want.

if you really want a scope, i'd spend the extra money and get an SS. when you replace the SS with a better scope, you'll have enough money in the SS to justify building another rifle for it!

Here's a chance for some laughs. But I am serious. I know a fellow who has a 4-16X trajetory scope on his rilfe. At the local range he takes it out of the case and fires a cold bore shot at an old ventilated two pound propane bottle 590 yards away and hits it. Then he dials it back to 100 yards and puts one through the "X". After that he asked the guys wit the more expensive setups if they would like to have a little contest.

He uses an out of the box Savage with a muzzle brake and a Tasco.

My longest kills on game were in the days when I had 6-24X Tascos on my accurate rifles. My accurate rifles were Savages. One was an out of the box .223 with a 9 twist heavy barrel and the other was a blown out Swift using a rechamber factory barrel.

All this essay is telling you to get a Tasco. I purchased 4-16X Tasco World Class the other day for $64 plus freight. I am not embarrest in the least to set it along side my Swarovski for its use.

I got a bushnell elite 3200 on my trainer rifle. Got it at Natchez for 154. Pretty good deal, Japanese made glass. Best budget scope I brought.

Thanks for all the honest reviews.

I was wondering something but it may be better suited for another thread, stuff to do with how relative is quality when discussing optics for people who have different intended uses, skills, etc...

Also questions like above may take away from the sites main purpose, basically going away from "sniper's" which would call for only the best to info for hobbyists using equipment that will "just get you by"...
