Rifle Scopes LPVO for 25-750 yds (some "precision" work)

Im looking for, an ideally, 1-8 scope for an LMT 5.56. It is a grunt, do-all rifle I shoot in close quarters (25-50 yds), but I also want to have with me when I go to the long range and ring steel at 400-750. I also like to shoot groups at 100, 200, 300. So im looking for a LPVO. I think im down to the Vortex Razor, Kahles, and NF NX8 (but im open to others).

I think Im gravitating towards the NF - the only downside im seeing is the eye-box is unforgiving at higher mags and only usable from a bench/prone. Is this overblown a bit or is that the truth?

Also, given the rep of LMT, the fact its my only AR rifle, im looking for a bomb-proof scope - which also has me leaning towards the NF

Of those three I would choose the NX8...

I have read several reports that the size of the dot on the NX8 isn't great for precision shooting, especially for groups.

I tried the Trijicon 1-8 and thought the same thing about the reticle thickness.

I'm looking for a scope for the exact same purposes and the next one I will try is the CQBSS.

The one you want is the Burris XTR2 1-8 FFP. The center dot is only .1 mil in size with mil wind holds, which are great for precision on a LPVO. The bottom part of the reticle are holds in BDC though, just map out your dope to be on perfectly.

The 10 mil wide and 1 mil thick huge circle just works fantastic for close in!

You can choose to cap the turrets or not, the MAD system comes in the box. I just have the windage knob capped.

I'm content with mine for the price. This type of scope I don't want to spend a bunch of money on.

Of those three I would choose the NX8...

They do, a 6x would probably suffice, im just saying if possible, id choose 8x for those real long shots, but if a 6x is better suited for everything else, its not a deal breaker.

If you truly want an 8x, I think Steve is right. The value of the Burris is really tough to beat. But it's a slightly different scope than the NX8. The NF is very small and compact and comes with a mil reticle. The Burris is about is maybe 4 or 5 ounces heavier and a little longer with a BDC with mil windage holds.. Both are 34mm tubes, both have mil turrets, both are true 1x with daylight bright illumination, front focal plane.. The Burris has a cap system where you can make either the windage or elevation or both, capped or uncapped. Both are extremely durable, I don't hear of anyone breaking either of them. Bulletproof warranties. $1000 for the Burris, maybe a little better with the "good guy Hide Discount" Through CS Tactical. $1600'ish I believe for the NF.

I think head to head in actual performance, the Burris will compete with any LPV under 2k.

The 1-8 ATACR is worth a look. I run one on a 16" MRP. I had bought it with intentions of it going on a MWS but I can't bring myself to move it now. It's a great combination for an all around useful carbine.

It's a 1.25 MOA/.3 Mrad center dot on the NFs.. so it's a little tough to hold on a 1" dot but anything bigger is not a problem in my experience.

And while the NX8 is a little tight at 8x, it's not bench only by any means.. it's quite usable and about the same as the NXS 1-4 was.

I love my k16. Amazing eye box and field of view. Very easy to get behind. Glass is excellent. I highly recommend.

For a LPVO it's all about compromise unfortunately, especially for precision work. Some are faster on the bottom end, some have true day time brightness and others might work better on the top end.
For true daytime brightness the Nightforce duo, Vortex Razor Gen II, Kahles and Swarovski excel.
For the clearest edge to edge clarity at 1x the Nightforce ATACR, Kahles, Swarovski and Vortex Razor Gen II.
If you want lightweight and compact the NX8 just kills it.
At 6x Second Focal Plane works well, at 8x First Focal Plane makes more sense.
Most LPVO reticles are more geared towards speed hitting COM, not many LPVO reticles are really geared for tiny groups at distance.

The RT6 is a fantastic scope at that price point. A buddy of mine has been trying to get his hands on one for some time, looks like he found one and it's one the way. I should get some play time with it at the 3 gun match this weekend.
