I just purchased a CMMG AR .308 with a 16" barrel. I already have a 5.56 AR that's my run and gun rifle, and I have bolt guns better suited for distance precision. My goal with this rifle is more of a mid range DMR that can perform some CQB if needed.

I'm looking for some opinions on a decent LPVO in 1-8x. My budget is less than $1500 and I do qualify for military/LE pricing that some offer. My priorities are daylight bright with a nice reticle, clear glass, and possibly zero stop turrets...

I can't find many LPVO's that offer zero stop, why is that? Do any of you feel like zero stop is necessary for what I'm looking for?

Any feedback is appreciated!

The Primary Arms Platinum line 1-8 is an excellent choice that will come in under your budget.
Or call Scott at Liberty Optics, add a bit more to your budget and get the Vortex Razor Gen III

Not exactly what you were looking for, but I think the primary arms GLX 2.5-10 has a turret stop.

I'm not opposed to something used either. I've had a chance to look through a Trijicon Credo 1-8 ffp not the HX sfp. I liked it a lot but the only turn off was no zero stop. Do you think I'm putting too much emphasis on a zero stop? My concern is having trouble returning to zero if I'm dialing the turrets for a 400 or 500 yrd shot.

I think most LPVO’s won’t have a zero stop, because most users simply hold for elevation at shorter distances.

Fast, set and forget type of shooting.

Even if dialing for the occasional shot, returning to zero can’t really be so hard without a zero stop.

Love the zero stop on my higher powdered scope, but for me, it’s never needed for the LPVO.

Nx8 1-8

NF NX8, NF ATACR, and the March F compact optics are the only three LPVOs I know of with a zero stop. The NX8 might be in your price range.

Personally I thought I needed a ZS but after thinking further on it and being realistic about my usage, I concluded it is not a priority, but a nice thing to have. In other words, the 1% of the time I may spin my turrets beyond 10mils does not necessitate the extra money to obtain an optic specifically for ZS.

You’re usage may vary, but a full revolution of 10mils on most LPVOs will get you quite far (probably further than your intended shooting distance) with your .308 rifle.

Just something to think about. Need vs. wants.

Since you qualify for .gov pricing, give us a call at 916-670-1103 on some Vortex options like the Razor Gen III, we have the MOA model in stock and it's somewhat close to your budget :)
