I have a LRHS 3-12. Looking to upgrade and not spend a boat load. How does the LRHS compare to the Gen 1 razor or XTR II? Since I'm familiar with the Bushnell would I be smart to snag a 4.5-18? Lastly, how do the LRHS and LRTS compare? Is it just reticle choice? Thanks for the help.

I think the LRHS is at/near the top of the value/cost totem pole so it's going to be difficult to spend similar dollars and get much better performance. Is it specifically more magnification you're after? If so the new Bushy 3-21's look very good

Going from the LRHS to the XTR2 would not be an upgrade. Not really knocking the XTR2, it has great value for the features it provides, but the glass in the LRHS & LRTS is at a higher level. The LRTS & LRTS-i will get you exposed (locking) windage turrets and an illuminated reticle in the "i" model. Optically the LRTS and LRHS are supposed be identical.

When you say "upgrade", what exactly are you looking for? More magnification, better image, illumination, different reticle?

My 3-12 sits on my Savage 308. I guess I should rephrase things. I'm keeping it there but looking for to step up for my next rifle which will be a 6.5 CTR, Bergara HMR or something of the like. More magnification is the biggest requisite. I'm far from a scope snob and I'm pretty fond of the glass in my LRHS. It will just be for steel out to about 1000.

Any thoughts on budget? You mention the Gen1 Razor (Great optic), so Im assuming your budget is <$2k? We had a good thread going on the Scout hide about preferred scopes from $500-$1000, $1000-$2000, etc. We need to get that one going over here again.

I have the LRHS 4.5-18 on my CTR and have taken it to 1400 yards. It has better glass than my son's XTRII 4-20 in my opinion. I would like to put a 3-12 LRHS on my AR-15 Grendel as I like the reticle for hunting.

I'd like to stay as close to $1000 as possible. I know $1200 can get me significantly more and I'm ok with that. Id be willing to go $1500 of it got me twice the scope. Just not trying to squeeze in a Gen 2 Razor or S&B since my main shooting distance will be 600 and in. Maybe once a month/every other month I'll get somewhere I can stretch things to 1000 or farther.

If you talk to the right people, you can get into a 4-18 LRTS for around $1200, especially if you are okay without the Illumination. The XTR2 is still a great option and below your price point, just be aware the glass may not be on par with your LRHS. Good thing about the XTR2 is there are a lot of them out there and you may be able to find a few locally to look through before you buy.

Given your experience with the LRHS it would be an easy transition to step into a 4-18 LRHS or LRTS, or if you can shop around a DMRII will be withing your price point.

I have an LRHS and an xtr ii. Here's my take. Both serve different roles for me based on size, weight, power.

The LRHS glass is better than the xtr ii but not by a huge margin. I use the xtr ii to shoot 1000 yards and have no issues seeing the splash on 20x-25x. I like the turrets on the xtr ii better than the LRHS. They are very positive and crisp and the zero stop is stupid simple. The illumination in my xtr ii is great, no bleed, etc but it's not daylight visible. I've had the xtr ii since they came out and recently got the LRHS so time will tell how it stacks up under harder use than the range. The xtr ii has been a tank so far.

Overall they are both great optics in that price range. I keep thinking about upgrading my xtr ii but am always reminded that I'm not going to shoot any better by spending an extra $1k. I may snag something similar but it would be primarily for weight/size savings.

Midway's running a sale on the Bushnell Tac Elite ERS, it 3.5-20 with locking turrets, the model up from the old DMR. They are nice scopes that used to retail from 1500 up. Midway has them for 1200. in FDE. glass on a par or better than the LRHS and better features for comp type or longer range than the LRHS. check it out.

I agree with this. I have an XTR II 5-25X50 and LRTSi 4.5-18. The LRTSi has a little better glass, but the reticle is a bit thicker than the XTR's and I don't like the that. Otherwise, the XTR II is a great deal for the price. I have shot to 1000y with the XTR with my 6.5 creed and to 850y with the LRTSi on a 6.5 grendel with no issues with either.
