just started with forster neck bushing bump die,but with minimal sizing on my .204 brass bringing it back from .226 to .225 and just over 1 thou shoulder bump,is it ok not to lube?would speed the job up a lot!theres no effort on the press when sizing without lube, any info would be great.

Re: lubing when neck sizing?

I would use the lube anyway. You never know when a case will decide to stick. Plus, it is better for your dies

Re: lubing when neck sizing?

I'd definitely use it, Imperial Wax is a good way to go.

I got some knit cotton gloves that I slathered up with Imperial Wax and I just roll the cases through my hands quickly before sizing, it takes about 2 minutes to lube 500 pieces of 223 brass.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">The spray-on case lubes are probably the best thing to happen to reloading in years. You can make your own spray case sizing lube in bulk by mixing liquid lanolin and 99% isopropyl alcohol.

A solution of 1 part liquid lanolin and 4 to 5 parts parts 99 percent isopropyl alcohol (4 oz of liquid lanolin to16 - 20 oz of isopropyl) works well. When mixing you may find that the lanolin mixes better if you warm both the alcohol and lanolin in a bath of warm water to about 105 - 110 degrees F before mixing. DO NOT WARM EITHER OF THEM OVER AN OPEN FLAME! Once the solutions are warm, pour together, mix thoroughly, allow the mix to cool (mix occasionally as it cools) and store in an air tight container to prevent water from being absorbed by the isopropyl. </div></div>

copied from THE BEST CASE LUBE YOU CAN FIND ANYWHERE

i have used this lube for several years, i lay the cases in a box that is 12"X18"X2"when the bottom is covered with brass, i spray, lay down another layer of brass and spray, i do this till the box has 4 or 5 layers of brass then i carefully roll the brass back and forth several times, allow the alcohol to evaporate from the brass throw about 150-200 cases in the Dillon 650 case feeder and have fun.., ALWAYS be careful to NOT get any lube into the case mouth as it will cause the powder to stick inside the case and cause a false reading when weighing each load.

Re: lubing when neck sizing?

i have NEVER had a stuck case since using the above formula, keep the lube out of the inside of the case neck, get a carbide expander ball/button, i never lube it, as there is a slight over spray on enough cases to keep everything running smoothly.

Re: lubing when neck sizing?

Size the neck LUBE IT FIRST

I lube them with the redding graphite powder with ceramic balls works great also butter them up with imperiel wax but after the sizing and flash hole reamong I tumble in stinless media this gets them as new ready to reload like new
