I just wanted to see what the general consensus was here on M&P series pistols. I have yet to shoot one, but from what ive seen they seem to be really good about recoil control. Im considering one, after i shoot it and hear a few more good things about it. Im shooting a G23 now, and want a full size m&p .40

Re: M&P Pistols

They are GREAT pistols! I've taken a number of friends out to "test" different pistols when they were looking to buy and they have pretty much all picked either an XD or an M&P. I shoot the XD because it feels a slight bit better in my hand, but the M&P was a VERY close second! I still might get one...

Re: M&P Pistols

M&P ultra-reliable in my experience. I EDC an M&P9c and have s full-size 9 that I ran an informal torture-test on a while back: shot a bunch (2k+ rounds) of cheap dirty ammo without cleaning to see how it would handle it. I think I had maybe 2 malfs in over 2k rounds and I'm pretty sure both of those were ammo related. With normal cleaning, maintenance, and decent ammo its been very reliable.

BTW: on the topic of reliability, I always chuckle when I read a firearms post where the OP says "...I've <span style="font-style: italic">never</span> had a single problem with my _____ (insert name of be-all, end-all, uber-pistol)..." All that tells me is that they don't shoot enough
wink.gif
Even with decent mass-produced factory ammo a bad round is going to slip through now and then. Shoot enough and you're <span style="font-style: italic">going</span> to have a malf from time to time, no doubt about it. To me an endorsement is allot more credible when the poster talks about how <span style="font-style: italic">few</span> malfs he experiences as opposed to "<span style="font-style: italic">...never had any...</span>" Rant Off

Re: M&P Pistols

Have been carrying an M&P 45 for about 2yrs and love it. I have put a few thousand rounds through it with no trouble at all ( sorry plong)I do keep it clean and well maintained though (duty weapon) I had always carried Glocks but this suits me better.

Re: M&P Pistols

Sold every M&P I've owned to go back to Glock. M&P9, M&P40, M&P45 & M&P40c. Nothing personal, I just prefer Glock.

The M&P40's seem to be a bit more tame as far as recoil. My M&P40c was a pleasure to shoot compared to my G27.

The M&P has a great track record and they are plenty accurate. It's a matter of personal preference.

Another nice thing is that S&W has probably the best CS in the industry right now.

Funny, I'm doing just the opposite right now, I have a slight man crush on the M&P and am selling my last two G19s soon

Re: M&P Pistols

I like the fact that S&W uses a SS slide under their finish. I think the durability is a bit better than the new Glock finish but time will tell. I prefer the Glock trigger reset and the take down process over the M&P.

Apples to Oranges...

Re: M&P Pistols

I picked up a M&P40c for my off duty carry weapon about 4 years ago. It's one of the few guns that I've picked up and fell in love with. I rented one, fired about 50 rounds through it and then bought it. I consistently shoot higher qualification scores with my M&P than with my full size duty weapon, a Glock 22. That's nothing against Glock (I own 3 of them) but the M&P feels much nicer and as I result I shoot better with it. As sw99 said, it's more a matter of personal preference.

Re: M&P Pistols

That M&P40c is a great shooter for sure. So much more manageable than my G27. Also, another thing to consider is the factory sights are much better on the M&P. I would not have sold that if it wasn't for getting something that was compatible with my G22 mags.

I left glock for the M&P a while ago the two faught bad at first until my M&P busted up the guide rod in my glock and sent him packing holding his tears back being the fairy he is.
M&P has been there ever since without a hiccup

I've shot about 2 or 3k through my G23. I've had fewer malfs than I could count on one hand. Probably ammo related. Mostly white box and fed HST.

Honestly, I like the look of the m&p over the glock, and it feels better in my hand definitely. It also seems as though recoil is easier to control in the M&P series. In the magpul videos it seems as if Costa and Haley were firing off full mag strings with the muzzle barely moving. That was probably a 9mm though.

Re: M&P Pistols

I know I'd take one over a Gen 4. Gen 3 vs M&P would be a tough choice. M&P ergos are much better though, Glocks always feel like they're missing something in the upper palm/web area. The people I know have put 1,000 at least through a few M&P's w/no hiccups.

My point exactly, I can (and do
wink.gif
) say the same thing about my M&P; 2k+ rounds and "fewer than I could count on one hand..." is way more credible IMHO. When I read "thousands of rounds" and "never..." or "not a single..." I'm tempted to call BS. If someone is truly lucky to have shot over 2k rounds without once encountering a bad round or two they should quit whatever they do for a living and head straight to the local Quickie Mart and buy a stack of lotto tickets; sure to be an instant millionaire. Just a peeve of mine, I guess...

Re: M&P Pistols

I have had my m&p .40 for about 6 years now i think and i love it, shoots really well and for the price it cant be beat! i know it just got brought up but i havent had one malfunction it it. gun or luckily ammo related. I have glocks also which serve the purpose i have for them but i prefer my m&p. not to mention smith and wesson is an awesome company with great costumer service!

if you get one you wont be disapointed in it. i like it so much im gonna "get my wife a compact to fit her hands" so i can shoot it haha

I feel the same way. Alot of the 2k through mine has also been Fed HST or other high quality ammo. So if someone is shooting 3k rounds of tula surplus ammo and having "zero malfunctions ever", they must be doing something im not.

Re: M&P Pistols

I shoot competition so I have shot thousands of rounds through my handgun now. I had about 4,000 rounds with the factory setup then changed to limited from production and did some upgrades. I had three jams in the first 4,000 rounds. The only other issues I have had were reloades and my mistake. Changed the barrel and needed a bit longer OAL to get the feeding down right. As for the gun itself I have never had anything break, never had anything not work the way it is meant to. I love the feel of the M&P and think it is a great handgun to use for daily carry or even in the competitive world.

Re: M&P Pistols

Just bought an M&P 40 Pro 5" to try out. I love my Glocks but really like certain things about the M&P (as stated). This will be replacing my G21SF that has been bothering me in the accuracy department for awhile... Time will tell.

Re: M&P Pistols

Well I took all the advice and went ahead and pulled the trigger on an m&p 9mm.also ordered a set of trijicon night sights. Hopefully I can pick it up Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks for all the help

Thats about how i feel. I bought a glock 21 gen 4 two weeks ago. Went back to get reloading supplies and held a M&P 40, and i love the way that gun feels. It's so much more comfortable than my glock. So i've found my 40 for sure i'm already saving

Might pick up the M&P9 too.

I do like the extra three rounds the G21 carries over the M&P45. Still can't get over the grip on the M&P though i thought it was amazing.

I believe those are the "spec ops" M&P9s I've watched it twice now and they never say which M&P it is, but there was a M&P spec ops in 9mm with a threaded barrel like their using.

Re: M&P Pistols

Great decision I doubt you will disappointed. I have owned the 4.25” barrel .40 and the 40c for a few years now. Love them, shoot and carry them regularly. No issues that weren’t caused by me. Smith and Wesson costumer service is great to deal with if you have any issues.
